Hi all,

At the upcoming ESIP Winter Meeting in Washington DC (http://commons.esipfed.org/2015WinterMeeting), we'd like to kick off the first in a series of code sprints aimed at building a community of practice, supporting and streamlining the science applications of Drupal.

To make an effective contribution, we thought it best to focus on a specific topic area at each meeting. As well getting everyone fired up (!), this focus could potentially form the nucleus for collaborations with other groups within ESIP.

So - where do you think our collective effort would be best focused?

Please vote above, or leave your suggestion as a comment if it's not listed. Ideally, we'd cover areas highly relevant to ESIP members and the wider science community, and typically neglected by other groups in the Drupal community - but all suggestions are welcome!

After we've decided on a topic area, we'll pull together a starter list of modules and issues needing attention, which we can add to, refine and re-prioritize unconference-style at the Winter Meeting itself.

Remember: anyone of any coding skill level or domain expertise can contribute to a code sprint, whether in writing documentation, testing, issue queue management or coding itself - so all are welcome and we look forward to seeing you in Washington!

Best wishes - David and Adam

Research Data Alliance (RDA): File management Needs

ashepherd's picture

The team behind the RDA website, which is built using Drupal 7, has contacted us with a problem they are trying to solve with file management. They use Organic Groups to provide collaboration areas for certain interests such as Data Citation, etc.

They have an external file mgmt. solution that they would like to replace with a Drupal solution. Here are the requirements:

  • documents in any format from docs, code etc. (no proprietary formats, pdfs for docs, and that we prefer machine readable formats or at least UTF based)
  • Not large volume but long-term
  • We would like to have a DOI assigned to them (no decision on the system/policy for this has yet been taken). It would make sense doing it through DataCite as they are RDA organisational members.
  • Open access ("all read" rights) but controlled uploading and deleting of documents (editing & deleting rights limited to a specific group)
  • We need a versioning functionality (V1/draft/V2 type... ), with a view of versioning history
