Hi all,
I'm looking into email newsletter options for Drupal. I've considered some external options, but would appreciate any insights into Drupal modules (Mime Mail, Simplenews... ) that you have used and liked. Any caveats would be welcome too.

Caveats
I typically would not recommend that folks do bulk mailings directly out of their Drupal server. Unless you're an email pro it's just too much work to handle properly. It's very easy to get yourself blacklisted, or to have delivery or other problems.
Now, if this is just a small informal list, it's probably fine - but if you're sending out thousands of emails, I'd really recommend not doing it yourself but funneling it out - either by using a service like Mailchimp, constant contact, etc., or by building the emails yourself and shooting them out through an external mail service.

Mailchimp
The Drupal Mailchimp module works well, and the Mailchimp service is free if you send less than 12K emails per month.
Plus a service like mailchimp gives you lots of delivery and campaign information that you do not get with using Drupal.
I second the recommendation
I second the recommendation of MailChimp. Not sure exactly what you need, but it's surprisingly easy to plug your website's RSS feed into a MailChimp campaign and use the results to automatically send out an email every day, week, year, - whatever you want.
I'd also add, if you do decide to send out emails directly from your website, consider using MailChimp's sister service, Mandrill (http://mandrill.com/) to alleviate some of the serious issues that Steve mentions here. Mandrill + the SMTP module lets you send out email through a trusted server, plus you benefit from additional analytics.
