Possible ideas for OxDUG events in 2015, based on notes from December 2014 OxDUG.
Comparative deployment workflows (3-4 volunteers)
How do different people run development workflows from dev to staging to live? How can people roll back to old states and re-import the content? Especially important in the context of Drupageddon.
Can we compare 3-4 agencies (or other players) and come up with a big table of what each is doing regarding important aspects of "just getting work live" e.g:
- Infrastructure and different environments (local/dev/staging/production etc.)
- How to get "signoff" and agreement with clients (internal or external)
- Version control and code workflow (local->VCS->dev->... etc.)
- Features, migration, content deployment... any other ways of moving stuff around.
- Deploying, maybe with continuous deployment, drush make etc.
- Testing with Behat, Simpletest, commit hooks etc.
Volunteers
- Ben Chad (volunteered as a self-hoster to show his workflow)
- Finn Lewis / Agile Collective Ltd (Happy to share our workflow, dev-stage-production, tech choices etc.)
- Stephen @ White October
- Volunteer tbc.
Comparative hosting (everyone present who hosts!)
As above, but literally anyone present who hosts anywhere to briefly summarize their own choice of hosting, and the pros and cons:
- Company & service (e.g. Bytemark -> BigV)
- Omega88 / Patheon / Open Stack / Acquia / Self-hosted / Institution etc.
- Cost
- Access & options: OS, software available etc.
- Who handles updates (to OS?)
- DNS and domain registry
Maybe also have a live demo of how different major hosting providers work
Other ideas for future talks
Poll is now here, so editing the options below will do nothing! Start a discussion instead, and I'm sure someone will chip in....
Options fed into the poll:
- Testing - Behat / Drupal
- Migrate - would be good to have a demo on the migration from csv blog post
- Steven Stose: Uses Feeds module to consume feeds, would like a discussion on
- https://www.drupal.org/project/restws and how to use to expose RDF
- Finn would like to look at Drupal 8 REST
- Neil suggests a "show and tell" - tell others about a brilliant module they may not know about, and what it is great for (edit by J-P: or a Drupal distribution they've actually used e.g. Managing News, Open Public, RedHen)
- Howto: Feeds
- Howto: Search API/Solr/Elastic search
- Howto: implementing "editor picks" in a search
- Live demo: my first Drupal 8 module
