B'stro is a leading interactive digital agency that develops sites, apps and full brand identities for global brands and local causes. We are looking for a smart, dedicated and solution oriented Web Developer to become a part of our team.

As a Full Stack Developer you will spend your time guiding a huge variety of development projects through all stages including planning, design, development, QA, launch, and support. You will help guide internal processes, both technical and business oriented, and mentor, coach, and grow the B’stro development team. In an average day you might be planning the development approach to a responsive website, setting up the server environment for a new client, consulting with our San Francisco team on IA and design comps over video call, and having some fun in-house with our development team based in Vancouver.

The ideal candidate will have several years of agency or equivalent real world experience in this position, or a very similar one. Your background is in computer science and programming, and you are a technical Swiss Army Knife. No new technology ever poses a challenge for too long, and problem solving is your middle name. You are a leader and can see the bigger picture of the project. This allows you to plan successful and efficient development approaches and help the team reach the end goal. You constantly want to be better and drive your team to achieve the same high standards.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Fluent in multiple web programming languages and in particular PHP and ASP.NET.
  • Natural leader with more than two years leading and delivering within a team environment
  • Assist development project planning and support non-technical project managers achieving successful, on-budget, technical solutions
  • Estimate technical approaches and required resources for client projects and participate in RFP responses and client pitches
  • Mentor, coach, and grow the development team and be accountable for the technical proficiency of junior developers
  • Assist with development of internal, technical and business processes and development team scheduling
  • Understanding of and excellent intuitive sense for Usability, Architecture, UX & UI, Design, and Accessibility
  • Review and approve proposed development solutions & design compositions
  • Oversee the launch/release of digital products

  • Research technical tools and solutions, including but not limited to: libraries, templates, plugins, CMS’s, CRM’s, API’s, IDE’s, emulators, e-commerce platforms, Payment Gateways, donation platforms, programming languages, productivity tools, internal systems, 3rd party solutions, electronic vendors etc
  • Review, approval, and development of technical planning documentation such as: Wireframes, Userflows, Use Cases, Scenarios, Sitemaps, Technical Diagrams, Prototyping, Technical Specifications Documentation, etc
  • Ultimately ensure technical problems are resolved in a timely and cost-effective manner

Additional Requirements:

  • BSc in Computer Science, Math, or related field
  • Ability to completely develop fully responsive, pixel perfect, large scale websites that are W3C compliant and cross browser compatible, stable, and secure across all popular devices and browsers
  • 2+ years of experience building industry standard websites and/or mobile applications
  • 2+ years of experience programming in HTML, CSS, JS, PHP, MySQL
  • 2+ years of building websites using Drupal and related community involvement and proven ability in building custom modules and themes.
  • Presentation skills and confidence with clients
  • Project management skills demonstrated by the ability to define tasks in a well organized manner, based on proper resource and time management
  • Able to quickly assess situations, troubleshoot complex problems and keep a calm head under tight time constraints and high pressure
  • Utmost attention to detail and accountability to the nth degree

Desirable Skills (nice to haves)

  • Experience working in an agency environment
  • Able to setup and configure a secure LAMP server
  • Experience working with ASP.Net and MsSQL
  • Experience working with DotNetNuke (DNN)
  • Able to work in an Agile manner
  • Windows Phone, Android, & iOS development
  • Experience developing client-side commercial grade software
  • Ability to travel
