Agenda and notes

• Ask each person in the hangout to write their name in the agenda/notes (so we are sure everyone can follow along and help take notes)

  • mentors see this pattern lately: people come and return to the core mentoring hours not because they need to be mentored but because they are reluctant to search for the new issues so they come and ask mentors to look for something appropriate for them
    • strategy: tell them how you find issues (even the first time someone asks)
    • strategy: then ask them to find an issue and then offer to let them know if you think it's a good one
    • strategy: ask them to help someone else
    • mention the username in the mentoring channel so that other mentors know to give the same standard response
    • we do ask returning people to help other people to find issues for others
    • this strategy sometimes works, but sometimes it leads to these people disappearing
  • edit drupal.org/core-mentoring page and list some frequent irc mentor usernames @todo val (done) - I’ve listed 3 of us, will maybe add people after the next Wed slot
  • did cilefen suggest a new irc scheduling thing and not doodle?
    • @todo cilefen make sure irc mentors are sending out a doodle (or other scheduling thing?) each month (might help a little with exposing who does irc mentoring)
  • fubhy had some thoughts about what to do with people who want mentoring on porting contrib to d8.
