Came across program information for the Madison YWCA's YWeb Career Academy, and thought some folks here might be interested.

Program description
"YWebCA provides an immersive, Agile-like work environment with opportunities for students to develop their leadership skills while learning web development skills. The instructional portion of the includes lectures from course instructors, guest speakers who share their experience in the industry, and time to workshop specific skills and complete projects. Course material is online so students can learn at their own pace."

Schedule
"Our next YWeb Career Academy session is June 22 through August 21. Class will meet Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m."

Support opportunities
You can help support this program by:

  • Hiring an intern: "Are you a Madison-area business who needs web developer interns and can offer a paid position for 3 to 6 months in Fall 2015 or Summer 2016?" (Contact info on program page.)
  • Volunteering in the lab: present on your industry experience or another tech topic, participate in workshops or industry visits, or mentor in the lab (presenter volunteer application)
  • In-depth mentoring: "We would like to pair each student with industry professionals to act as their career mentors. Mentors may be paired with 1-2 students. Your relationship with your mentee(s) is up to you to determine. Ideally, we would like you to be available to answer students’ questions by phone and/or email, assist them in networking by inviting them to attend industry events with you and to meet with you about career pathways and guidance. In addition, students may be interested in visiting your office and/or shadowing you during business hours." (Mentor application)

I am thinking of presenting or mentoring, and would like to hear from anyone else who may be interested.
