Week 2 check-in meetings
On 9th and 10th June, we’ll have check-in meetings for second week of GSoC coding period. All students must attend any one of these meetings. Following are the two slots:
- 10th June 0500 UTC - 1030 IST/2400 EDT (This was initially supposed to happen on Tuesday but is now postponed to Wednesday)
- 9th June 1800 UTC - 2330 IST/1300 EDT (This meeting will happen as scheduled originally on Tuesday)
We’ll start the meeting in #drupal-google channel on Freenode but we might switch to audio later so please make sure that your microphones are working fine before you join the meeting.
To move things swiftly during the meetings, make sure you have answers to the following questions ready beforehand - you can even write the answers down beforehand if you wish.
- What have you accomplished since last meeting?
- What do you aim to accomplish by next meeting?
- Are you facing any problems or is there anything holding you back from accomplishing your goals?
Scrum is an agile software development methodology for managing product development and most companies (especially tech companies) use scrum to manage complex projects. Usually teams hold a daily scrum (also called, stand-up) and these 3 questions or some variation of these are done in each scrum.
Also, make sure whatever code you write is version controlled and uploaded somewhere we can review, like d.o sandbox or Github. Links to the repositories and the issues you’re contributing to must be kept handy.
Weekly blog posts
All students are supposed to maintain a blog where they post the weekly progress of their projects. Since most of you didn’t had a blog setup when we had the last meeting, make sure your blog is up by the next meeting and also remember to post updates for week 1 as well as week 2. Keep the following things in mind while starting a blog for GSoC:
- The first post should introduce your project before you provide updates for week 1 so that everyone can understand what you’re trying to achieve. Try to list down long-term goals and also add a blurb about GSoC if you wish. You can start by introducing yourself and your mentors too before you go into details of the project.
- The posts henceforth should be such that anyone who follows your blog can understand what is going on with your project.
- When you have a couple of posts on your blog, make a request to add it to the Planet Drupal. For more information of what Planet Drupal is and how to add your blog, read the requirements and steps on how to join.
- Add one "tip" or helpful note about something you learned throughout the week to educate other GSoC students.
