Share what mentoring successes and challenges you have had. Do you want to get involved doing mentoring but not sure what to do? Want to help Drupal mentoring be successful? Join us. All help is welcome.

We need:
people who can help organize us,
developers to help us with d.o issues that will effect contributor or mentor experience,
planners to help with events,
... lots of different skills.

Mentor Meta meetings are once a month, usually on the first saturday of the month, at UTC 20:30. To find the meeting ping YesCT or another mentor in IRC or check the mentor google calendar for the google hangout link. See https://www.drupal.org/core-mentoring for the calendar.

Would love to help

I've had nothing but great things to say about the mentors that I've had the chance to work with so far. I haven't ever really encountered any challenges. Everyone that I've worked with so far has been more than happy to help in any way that they can.

I'm more of a novice/intermediate user at this point, but I'm definitely interested in helping and getting more involved in the community. I believe that helping out is a great thing in general, but it also helps with the learning process as well.

If there is anything available for a novice/intermediate user to help with I'm in. :)

DrupalCon Asia 2016

DrupalCon Asia will happen in February 2016 (no specific date yet)
We want to review mentor sign-up form (https://www.drupal.org/node/2478171) according to comments of Cottser and other people.
Things to keep in mind: not all mentor coordinators will be able to attend DrupalCon Asia.

DrupalCon Barcelona

We have discussed recent work in preparation of Barcelona.
As of July 4, we had 43 mentor signups, target is 55. Mentor signup status can be viewed here
We will further spread the word, and keep the count of mentors accurate.
We will summarize mentors experience using surveys (to be set up by @alimac)

DrupalCon New Orleans

Review signup form, if this would not be done by DrupalCon Asia.

Documentation

Recent improved documents:
Mentoring Coordinator (overall Drupal mentoring coordinator)
Core Mentored Sprint Lead Roles (DrupalCon core mentored sprint leads)
These should help to find a new sprint and mentoring lead (see https://twitter.com/yesct/status/603624443403964417)
Things to improve:
* contributor tasks documentation
* mentors documentation
* how to become a mentor
Proposed changes to MAINTAINERS.txt https://www.drupal.org/node/2522716 wording should be polished, then can be marked RTBC

IRC

Activity during IRC core office hours was high, probably as a result of DrupalCon LA.
We need to target 1 mentor : 2 mentees ratio (things become messy if 1 mentor talks with more than 2 persons)
If we don't have enough mentees, mentors should review issues tagged Novice, add/remove the tag when not relevant.
We should encourage frequently coming contributors to become mentors.
Encourage people to do major triage, and work on criticals

Novice triage

Finding novice issues is hard. Additionally, many categories of novice issues are out of scope for the beta release -- this point was not discussed extensively, we'll need to return to this next month.
Use existing helper documents:
* https://www.drupal.org/contributor-tasks/triage-novice-issues
* https://www.drupal.org/core-mentoring/novice-tasks#avoid
* https://www.drupal.org/node/2494561#comment-9961039 and updates to novice task handbook page.
In case Novice tag is removed or added, commenter should specify the reason

Major Triage

structure worked well
https://www.drupal.org/node/2474049
We need to repeat more this summer (also, in IRC)
Expand the experiment to local sprints/camps
Physical (better) or online presense of area/component maintainer helps a lot
Directly email component maintainers, so that they at least know the contributor task doc exists and they have read it

Core mentoring on d.o. issues

Encourage people with D7 knowledge to help with mentoring-related d.o. issues. Issue queue is https://www.drupal.org/project/issues/search/?project_issue_followers=&s...

Talk about mentoring experience, especially on non-Drupal events
