Training (free or commercial)

In this course, you'll learn how to leverage Drupal's API by creating custom modules. You'll develop a module step by step and learn how to navigate the extensive documentation available and determine where you can hook into the system and add your new functionality. This course was designed for those who have experience with site building and knowledge of PHP.Drupal is a modular, open source web content management framework that ships with basic functionality in the form of core modules. For the most part, you add new functionality with third party modules (known as contributed modules) that can be downloaded from Drupal.org. At some point you may find limitations. You may want to modify functionality in a contributed module or core. You may want to move your configuration to code, or access an external data source.Custom code is expensive to maintain, risky to a project and creates a dependency on the people who wrote it. So while it is necessary to write some code on the vast majority of large Drupal sites, we strive to practice configuration before coding. You can accomplish a lot just by picking the right modules and configuring them to suit your needs.

@e-claire, this is the first of 23 nearly-identical posts you made in this group in the past two days. This creates noise in the group and increases the chances of people unsubscribing from notifications or leaving the group entirely.

I understand that you would like to advertise your trainings, but since this is a geographically-based group, it is not appropriate to advertise events in other cities or that occur online. I request that at the very least you please remove posts about the events in Maryland, Wisconsin, Arizona, Texas, Michigan, Indiana, and online.

Thank you Anna

I almost unsubscribed. I wish we had a span ban or something.

So Sorry!

Hi Anna,

Thank you for pointing this out. We had no clue how posting our upcoming training events would all wind up in the Chicago group. Jim Birch alerted us to the issue and we will clean up our postings tomorrow!!

Thanks for your patience,
Margaret

No kidding. I got about 30

No kidding. I got about 30 emails for all these "events" today. Not cool.

Sorry!

I hesitated to send an apology because I'm sure you're sick and tired of hearing from my company, but we really didn't intend to be spammy! We just thought we were adding our events to the event d.o event calendar.

Hello all, I reached out to

Hello all,

I reached out to the company hosting these training event and they were unaware they were posting them to the group. They thought they were only posting events to the site.

They are going to review their process and clean the postings up in the morning.

Thanks,
Jim

Apologies!!

Hello,

I'm with NxtTeam and like Jim said he reached out to let us know what was happening. Until then, we had NO idea that our class postings were affecting others. We were just trying to add all of our upcoming training events to the events page, but since our Class Administrator is only a member of our local Chicago group they all posted here. We understand our mistake and will get it all fixed asap.

Again, sorry all!

Tried to Fix it...

e-claire's picture

Hello,

I apologize again for spamming the Chicago group. We really had NO IDEA that the events I was adding at /events were posting to this group. I went in this morning to remove the classes that are not relevant to Chicago and learned another new thing...content can't be deleted from d.o. If you have a way to force deletion, let me know. Otherwise I need to leave the events as they stand.

Claire

How to fix it

manningpete's picture

Hi Claire,

You can request removal of these events via the g.d.o issue queue here: https://www.drupal.org/project/issues/groupsdrupalorg

Please open an issue there asking a maintainer to delete your nodes.

I would really appreciate you doing so, because legitimate events of interest to the Chicago group are buried pages deep because of your multiple postings.

Thanks, Manning

Opened an issue

I asked Claire here, via g.d.o message and via email to request deletion of her spam. Margaret Plett of Nxtteam wrote back and told me thought this was "handled" and they would request removal last week. They didn't, so I opened this ticket: https://www.drupal.org/node/2572143
