civimail - ready for prime time?

spiderman did some work last december to test the feasibility of a shared civimail install. Turned out to be harder than planned. But it looks like civicrm 1.4 might be ready for use by mere mortals and there's definitely a need out there for industrial strength targetted mailing engines, so post your experiences here if you succeed in making it work. I'm signed up to get it working with http://www.telecentre.org. Aside from techinical issues, there are also issues of spam and white-listing, shared installs and permissions ... etc.
