In the interest of posting this sooner, rather than later, here are the notes from today's Barcelona brainstorm meeting.
TLDR;
Focus on:
- Major triage
- Migrate
- Documentation, Documentation, Documentation
Good Mentored Sprint Options
Drupal 8 is currently nearing the release candidate phase. Once an RC is released, very few changes can be committed during the RC phase. Large sprints are great to move the Drupal community forward in a huge way. How do we activate this army of volunteers if there is a high likelihood that much of their code contributions will not get committed to core, at least not for some period of time. This takes into account the allowed changes in core during RC. See https://www.drupal.org/contribute/core/beta-changes#unfrozen. It will generally speaking be the "unfrozen" items.
In order of general importance, these are the areas we felt we could best move the Drupal community forward.
- major triage (involves reviewing issues, manual testing, etc.)
There are literally hundreds of un-triaged major issues. Some of these are not major, some are duplicates. And some are hidden criticals. We need to shrink this number.
The ideal state (purpose) of major triage:- A lot of issues are marked duplicate/cannot reproduce problem.
- Some issues are bumped to critical
- Many issues are postponed
- Update the triage document (heddn/xjm)
- Figure out the logistics of running major triage table(s) for new contributors (kgoel)
- document in the associated meta issue https://www.drupal.org/node/2474049 (kgoel)
- Find mentor sprint lead(s): potential leads => kgoel, akalata, valthebald -- follow-up by xjm (done)
- migration sprinting and testing: potential leads => jaredsmith, xano, realityloop - follow-up by xjm (done)
- documentation sprint or even documentation in Spanish: potential leads => jackbravo, David Hernández, pcambra? -- reach out to ifrik also to help coordinate? - follow-up by heddn
- bugfixes etc. with existing contrib - need someone to step forward and volunteer to lead this
- Front-end appearance testing - need someone to step forward and volunteer to lead this
- improve Classy inline documentation - need someone to step forward and volunteer to lead this

Not as Good Options
These were discussed as good ideas, but not for wide-spread adoption to mentor several hundreds of folks. We don't have enough documentation on how to ramp-up that many people and get them working on things. However, if there is specific interest to lead a table in the mentored sprint room focusing one of these topics and mentor folks, these become really great ideas. But unless someone steps forward, this probably not an area that will see much attention in Barcelona for the mentored sprint.
- module upgrades (i.e. rules, media, etc.)
- drupal.org issues
- topic leads (i.e. mobile, accessibility, etc.)

Documentation sprint
I'll lead the documentation sprint, and I will update the issues is time. The Docs WG will also discuss priorities for the community and extended sprints in its BoF on Tuesday.
If there is interest to organize a sprint to translate documentation into Spanish, then we should make a list before Friday.
