Drush

There seems to be a certain interest in a presentation on Drush. I think what I'll give is a talk just a little longer than a lightning talk and I'll use a projector. Maybe 20 minutes?

Gary, I think that foamcore board worked better than the full-on screen. Could you bring that again?

Drush

Sounds good, Shawn - I've been using it lately for a project and am quite impressed. Nice API for adding functionality and hooks, too.

Sorry I messed the last meeting; I love 'em but we were in the midst of a huge storm and I was battling rising water.

Will be good to see you at

Will be good to see you at the next meeting, Phil. I was wondering about you and the weather that night. It was pretty crazy! :p

Very cool, Shawn. I've

Very cool, Shawn. I've updated this post as well as the sticky part on the group home page to include your Drush presentation.

To prepare:

Drush is all about the command line interface (CLI). If that's new to you, I recommend watching a couple off Addi's excellent intro videos for the cli in preparation for learning about Drush:

Site Migration

I will be sharing Site Migration Basics at 5:30pm. This is from a presentation I attended in LA. Very much an intermediate presentation. No advanced subjects. Shares the basics of backing up and migrating sites at a basic level using contributed modules. I'll bring the foam core Shawn. Looking forward to seeing you all again! The time frame for this session is about 50 minutes. Also sharing Blip.tv from Design4Drupal camp sessions in lightning talks :-)

Update: 2-14-10

Hi Everyone,

I just went through the site migration basics for this weeks session on migrating a Drupal site from a Development Environment to a Live Environment and thought I'd send you something that will be helpful at this session.

Software and Drupal Modules that will help with this session:

MAMP – http://www.mamp.info
Mac-based apache/mySQL/php setup used for running a “localhost” web environment, enabling you to build and test a site on your local machine.

XAMPP - http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html
An apache/mySQL/php + option for Windows, Linux and Mac operating systems.

Backup & Migrate Module
http://www.drupal.org/project/backup_migrate

Poormanscron Module
http://www.drupal.org/project/poormanscron

Here are the assumptions and considerations for this session.

A. Assumptions: This session assumes that you have a Drupal site in a development environment or other environment that needs to be moved.

B. Considerations: It is important to consider the target environment (where you want to move your site to) in relationship to your development environment.

  1. Does your development environment match your target environment?
    1. Linux
    2. Apache
    3. PHP the same version
    4. MySQL
    5. Same Drupal version

I look forward to seeing you. Bring your laptop we have WIFI available at Hoppys.

Cheers

so we're starting at 5:30

so we're starting at 5:30 instead of 6:30?

Pre-party party

Sloane DellOrto's picture

Yep - Gary is starting a "beginners group" kinda thing at 5:30 to go over basic stuff -- more "seasoned" users are welcome too, to take part, mentor, hop in and help, etc.

Or maybe it's just so we can all spend more time together. :)

In any case, there are going to be two separate topics / times... each optional of course (do I even have to say that to an open source group? :))

Can't wait to see you, Phil - you're coming, yes!!??

I'll be there, lest the risk

I'll be there, lest the risk of being square!
