E-Commerce v4 Update

Well we here in the E-Commerce team have been very busy, working on v4 of E-Commerce, as well and slowly working towards getting out v3.1 which has a few bug fixes in it.

Over the past couple of weeks I have done a lot of work in making E-Commerce much better at being able to handle products, and make it easier to create products that will do what you want.

Firstly I have rewritten much of how the productapi works and made it much simpler. You can now actually have multiple product types handled by a single Drupal module. but this is the small change. Now you can define as many product types as you like. Now both the generic and tangible module are both gone, and are provided by a simple admin interface to build the product to do what they want.

The second major change is I have finally developed the new product features api, which allows generic feature to be be added to any type of product. So things like shipping, discount exceptions, and other things can be added and removed from a product type as you wish.

As we move towards the release of v4 we will be many more product features will be added such as a proper product availability and others. This is great for E-Commerce as it means that we can create a feature and make it the best, and it can be used by all products.

Over the coming weeks I will be developing a new customer system which will make it easier to develop new customer types, and also be able to run multiple types of customers at the same time. I am going to be depreciating the current payment system and developing a receipting system and payment gateways which can do more than just take money, but do things like refund payments, and make payments to customers. Also I think later recurring payments will also be on the cards.

Hopefully also v3.1 will be released soon.

Recurring payments

Also I think later recurring payments will also be on the cards.

I look forward to the day recurring payments are up and running as I would most definitely use this feature on my web site.

But most of all, thanks to Gordon and the e-commerce team for all the dedicated work they continue to do. A cold beer awaits you in Austin, Texas! :)

Gordon,

Cool!
Im going to adapt the subproducts module to fit this new system.
Is there a update function to smoothly get v3 users to v4?
Im also going to update a issue regarding the new product api.

Status update?

Hi,

it would be nice to have something of a status update regarding v4, like how feature complete it is? How does it compare to v3, are there features in v3 still missing in v4? etc.

I am fully aware it's not ready for "production" yet, but if you are building a new site now you rather like to build it based on v4, so it would be nice with something of a road map to easier decide what to not fiddle with yet and what may be (more or less) safe in term "this will not change (too) much" - except for bugfixing - etc. etc. I think you got the idea.

Also regarding documentation, I guess so far not much has been updated and adapted for v4 right? I might could lend some time for help on docs as it always tend to lag behind.
