BDUG 8/16: Thinking about Drupal 8: A Facilitated Discussion
TIME: 12:00-1:30pm
LOCATION: 2111 Bancroft Way (the "Banway" building)

Do you manage a custom Drupal website? Are you ready for a site upgrade and don’t know whether to choose Drupal 7 or Drupal 8? Or do you have a Drupal 6 site (Drupal 6 reached its official end-of-life on 2/28/16) that you’d like to migrate to a newer Drupal version and you don’t know where to begin?

In this session, we will facilitate a discussion about Drupal 8. Topics will include:

  • An overview of Drupal versions and the major release history and cycle
  • Why is Drupal 8 different from previous major releases?
  • How to determine your site’s Drupal 8 readiness
  • What is Backdrop?
  • What are my options (wait, do it yourself, hire someone)?
  • Ongoing maintenance considerations
  • Questions and answers (group discussion)

Bring your questions and experiences, and if you have built a new Drupal 8 site or are in the process of converting an existing site, please join us and share your tips!

IMPORTANT NOTE: Banway is a locked building. Someone should be at the front desk to let you in and key you up to the 4th floor. If no one is available to let you in and key you up, please call the conference room directly at 510-642-1597, and someone will come down to let you in.

About Berkeley Drupal Users Group meetings:

  • We are making an effort to select topics that directly benefit UC Berkeley employees using Drupal.
  • Please let us know if you are interested in presenting at BDUG.
  • Discussion format: Meetings will not always be formal presentations. Some meetings will be discussions centered around a predefined topic. Discussions will be initiated by a leader who will briefly present an overview of the topic possibly including demonstrations or supporting materials. The session leaves ample space for organic discussion. Participants are encouraged to:
    • Respond in these forums with ideas for the present meeting or future meetings
    • Bring problems encountered, questions and contributions to the meeting
