Sprint

As mentioned in the last Seattle user group, we're hosting a "Hack for Hope" to work on the HopeOneSource project on Saturday August, 27th at 10:00am. We'll be meeting up at the Cellar Door Media offices at 938 Broadway Tacoma, WA 98402.

HopeOneSource is a platform which started out as a hackathon winner at Drupalcon Denver to create a location based SMS platform based on an integration with the Tropo messaging service. Since then it's been expanded upon and launched in Washington DC as a system to spread information and alerts to those experiencing homelessness and at-risk youth. With the successful rollout in DC, there are plans to expand into additional communities in the upcoming year.

During the sprint we will be working on integrating an incoming SMS system able to take commands from users and act upon their accounts accordingly. These steps are crucial for us to gain our short code and reach more people without restrictions. We will also be working on various UI updates, extending multilingual support and mapping interfaces.

This is open to people of all skill levels and backgrounds. We'll have front-end and design, module building, PHP scripting for Tropo, multi-lingual and geolocation services workgroups.

If you have any interest feel free to register here, or leave a comment or contact me with any questions. If you want to attend remotely, we will be opening up a Google Hangout to connect with those outside the Seattle area. Look forward to working together to expand this life saving platform!

Sounds like a worthy cause.

Unfortunately I am out of the country right now and will not be back in time to participate, but I am interested, and would love to help in future efforts. I am a backend developer of some skill.

Definitely! When you're back

Definitely! When you're back in town drop me an email and I'll get you connected in with the group. It's a great project and really is saving lives, especially during the winter when hypothermia alerts are transmitted and notify people to get to warm shelters before it gets too cold.

Look forward to connecting and safe travels!
