Join us on October 18th at the Drupal NoVA meetup at 7 pm for interesting content, drinks and appetizers!

Rich Allen from Bixal will be doing a presentation on how to use the drupal-project, composer, and drupal console to create your first drupal 8 module without writing a single line of code.

There are a lot of new tools being released for drupal 8 to help development workflows and speed up module development.

Rich will go over:

· What is composer?
· Should I use composer?
· What is drupal-project? Is this just drupal?
· What is drupal console?
· How will all of this change my custom module development?

And at the end of this we’ll have a module that you can write without having to know a bit of drupal 8 specifics.

This will be a quick paced talk to introduce you to these new tool, explain their uses and the pro vs cons. The projects we’ll cover here are:

· https://getcomposer.org/download/
· https://github.com/drupal-composer/drupal-project
· https://drupalconsole.com/
· https://packagist.org/
o https://www.drupal.org/node/2718229
o https://packagist.drupal-composer.org/

And Gerardo Maldonado will also do a brief talk on Creating and Maintaining Drupal 8 Menus and Menu Links.

Gerardo will talk a bit about configuration management in general and share some recent lessons learned around Drupal 8 menus and menu links from a multilingual project we are doing at Bixal:

  • what gets exported as configuration and what doesn't;
  • how menu and menu links are treated by Drupal 8;
  • how to create and maintain in code;
  • What can you do to create and maintain those in code; and on the multilingual front:
  • How to store and import translations for your own custom menu links.

This meetup will take place at Bixal, located at the intersection of 123 (Chain Bridge Rd.) and Jermantown Rd., just off the 123 exit of 66 and roughly a couple of miles from the Vienna/Fairfax metro station on the Orange Line.
3050 Chain Bridge Rd, Suite 420
Oakton, VA

Our regular meetup is typically the third Tuesday of every month - rotating between ICF and Bixal in Fairfax.

Look forward to seeing you there!
