I was wondering if we could list the main differences between the workflow module the content_moderation module in core and the workbench moderation module and each of their benefits?
Since all are actively being developed but also, as I understand, all are sort of trying to implement the same thing.
I guess workbench_moderation will be replaced by the core version. (according to their page) "Since Drupal 8.2.x this module is in core as "Content Moderation"."
So the comparison would mostly be between workflow and content_moderation.

I would be interested in this comparison as well
I am also interested in this comparison. When migrating to Drupal 8, documentation seems to imply that Workbench Moderation is migrate-able and it seems that is the suggested process when moving from 7 to 8. I would be interested in additional breakdown of feature comparison and explanation of each as they do indeed seem to accomplish the exact same thing. I would prefer to move my workflow management process into a core module rather than a contrib, so documentation on the process to accomplish this would be useful.
comparison workflow modules in Drupal
Deciding which one you want to use in your project is completely depends on your requirement and complexity of your website. For example if you need a basic workflow, you can use core workflow module. If you need a more complex workflow with different states for each content type and there are multiple roles involved in content moderation , then contributed workflow module is more suitable one. Even you can find difference in assigning permissions for each state transition. contributed workflow module is more user friendly in that case. Also if you consider workbench module there content dashboard is available. Also work bench suite of modules is can be more considered if you have less number of states in your website.see this article to see how these modules works
