Hi all,
I'm planing to write (actually I started already) a module to integrate meetup-events into Drupal 8, unless someby else is already working on this, then I'ld like to join this project.
Basically I want to use ist for our usergroup https://groups.drupal.org/dresden to display the events on the not yet ready website ;-)
All meetup modules I found, are for drupal 7. And there seem to be no efforts to port them to D8.
It'll be my first contributed module, so I might need a little help with the management.
Do you have any hints, ideas or drawbacks?

Upgrade existing
In my mind, the best idea would be to port an existing module instead of creating a new one. This also helps with visibility and others to join in, if they use that module for D7 and are interested in upgrading.
As you said there are some modules for D7, so pick one which fits best for the stuff you want and writes the maintainer that you want to port it. You can also fork it to e.g. GitHub and share your progress with the maintainer and others in the meanwhile. Most of the maintainers will help you further or will add you as a co-maintainer to push your code later directly to the repository on drupal.org.
Its always good to start sharing your code soonish so others could have a look at it for ideas or hints. Also, Drupalcamps (hello drupalcamp.ruhr ;) ) are always good opportunity to show others your ideas or ask for help.
What I also would like to hear from others, if people are still creating and maintain local meetup websites? What I've seen over the last years in the Drupal community and in other communities, that often these local meetup sites either do not stay up for very long or get quickly outdated because nobody writes updates there. Especially with having groups.drupal.org, meetup.com, ... having just another side with the same info. And maybe that's why nobody is currently upgrading these modules?
@mmbk, will you be around at
@mmbk, will you be around at Drupalcamp.ruhr? I will try to organize a "Drupal Usergroup" BoF, so we can join forces on efforts like this and maybe have a joint base for all usergroups, so we do not have to reinvent the wheel every time.
I also know of https://www.drupal.nl/ having implemented some kind of meetup functionality.
Unfortunately not
I had planned to join the camp, but some serious family issues stopped me from coming :-(
But you could mention my plans, and that I'm willing to participate. I'll hang around on slack, maybe it helps ;-)
