So - I'm biting the bullet and retiring

Interestingly it turns out that shutting down your business that you have run for a while is every bit as difficult as building it.

It's like this - I've hit 65. I'm starting to collect social security. And I have decided to - well, at least slow down. Shutting down the hosting business (and slowly working on moving my clients to other pastures). I'm not taking any new development projects. And my hopes are to have all my servers out of Eau Claire by January, and to just for all intents and purposes stop.

I do have my hand in a few "retirement projects" that will go on, and am doing a lot of interesting things. But doing Drupal for other folks isn't going to be one of them.

I have a couple of clients who could use some really low-cost Drupal love -mostly just helping them with updates, etc. They're not all in the area. Let me know if working for practically nothing appeals to you :-) I also have a few who need some active development - let me know if that interests you as well.

It's been a great 12 years (12 YEARS!!) of Drupally life - but I'm planning on spending time with my wife, travelling a little, and pursuing some passions. I may even start to show up for more Drupal events in the cities once I'm not always on call. I'll certainly make it over for a beer.

Sounds like this is a good thing for you! But, it's also a major transition, so I can imagine it's not all puppies and ice cream. Good luck.

We have not seen a lot of you in recent years, but your impact and contributions to the regional Drupal Community have not gone unnoticed. Your name comes up frequently in discussions about Drupal and Drupal hosting. I know that many folks in the Twin Cities have worked with you at some point or another.

Please do come out for an upcoming Happy Hour or User Group meeting, so we can all buy you a beer.

I have my hands full of passion projects for organizations that do good work with little resources. I'm not sure if I can handle many more of those, but in a pinch ping me and I'll see what I can do.

Sounds like a good thing to unclick from the grind. Based on some other friend's paths, you might find occasional consulting work appealing, to keep yourself engaged and sharp. Feel free to reach out if you ever want to see if our little group has anything cooking.

Our lead dev has bandwidth for Drupal projects, if you need help.
