Welcome to Drupal Thailand!

I’ve joined on as an admin, and I just finished going through the backlog of requests to join. Let’s do a roll call :)

  • Where in Thailand is everyone, and do you live here or are you visiting?
  • What are you looking for from this group?
  • How are you using Drupal, and do you have a new favorite module or theme you’d like to share?

    Thanks!

    Chiang Mai

Hello! I’m in Chiang Mai, and I’m here working remotely through until I go back to Portland, Oregon in mid-September. My partner used to live here, and we’re getting some traveling in before our twins are born in December :)

I’ve been a remote knowledge worker for nearly 20 years, and I don’t relate to the term “digital nomad” at all. The “me-first” attitude I’ve seen in the digital nomad movement and general lack of interest to understand local culture and support the local economy is a big turn off for me. I do understand the need for people to group together to find support and social connections, though, which is why I’m here in the group!

From my perspective, this group here looks is very promising and was was languishing a bit, and I’m happy to breathe some life into it and help grow Drupal community here in Thailand. Collaborators welcome! My greatest hope is that the group continues to grow so that there are more resources and regular meetings when we visit again in the near future.

I’ve been in the Drupal community for many, many years, and these days I work at Large Robot, my consulting firm, and as a technical project manager and director of client services with Brooks Digital, an agency in the Portland area where we love working with nonprofits. I also love organizing events and building community, and for a while there, Droplabs, the coworking space I cofounded in Los Angeles, California, was one of the most active Drupal event spaces in the world :D

    Congrats!

    Bangkok

Hi, I'm Hannah. I've lived in Bangkok for almost 3 years and have been working in web dev for 18, all for a Drupal shop in DC called Brick Factory. We do have occasional meet-ups here in BKK, and I also try to make it to DrupalSouth and DrupalCon every year. I'm not a developer but love connecting with people from the community whatever their role :)

Wow, twins. Congrats! That is terrific news Christefano!

I'll be in Thailand in January. Probably won't make it up to Chaing Mai this time, but I do sometimes make my way up there.

I was curious what type of Drupal community there was in Thailand in 2018.

I'm sure that there are enough of us from Europe or North America that go through Thailand every now and again that we might even be able to have a global get-together or maybe even a sprint at some point.

Would be great to connect more with Thai enthusiasts & shops though.
