I've been digging deeper and deeper into Backdrop CMS over the last few months and getting more and more involved with the Backdrop project. I am trying not to fill up the local Drupal user group forum with Backdrop announcements, but since the connection between Drupal and Backdrop is so strong, I think it appropriate to post the occasional update or event.
Here is what is happening with Backdrop CMS locally:
1) I'm creating a local Backdrop CMS user group page at Meetup.com where anyone interested in Backdrop can meet and get announcements (then I won't need to post here as much).

2) This Saturday, I'm hosting a Backdrop CMS contribution sprint for a few hours. I had planned on spending a few hours working on issues for the next minor release of Backdrop (coming out on January 15th) and decided to open this time up for anyone interested in learning more about Backdrop OR that is interested in contributing code/testing/documentation to the Backdrop project.

Free lunch will be provided (please RSVP on Meetup.com).
To see what the current development priorities are for Backdrop CMS, please checkout the agenda from today's development meeting: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1opdNFLu0uawUjVtS7F_B6EnChoNsSj7drCCD...
- Core updates - through the UI
- Options Element in core
- Fieldable File Types
- Config translation
- A new dashboard ;-)
- And more....
Our numbers may be small. It might just be me. But, feel free to come by and learn about Backdrop or help make Backdrop better.
FYI - The Backdrop project is still closely tied to Drupal and there are many opportunities for these projects to learn from each other and leverage the work being done in both communities for the benefit of all.
Best wishes,
Tim Erickson
PS - On a very tangental note: the deadline for submitting sessions to MidCamp has been extended to Dec 19th! https://www.midcamp.org/

Come sprint on Drupal
Just after hitting the "save" button, it occurred to me that I should have been clear that anyone is welcome to come and sprint on Drupal as well (you will also get a free lunch). :-)
Or heck, just come and hang out with us and work on whatever project you like.
Best wishes,
Tim Erickson
