Presentations
Energizing the Seated :: Avi Schwab
Avi will be sharing some advice on staying active while working remotely. When he began full-time remote work last year, Avi made a commitment to go to the gym, mostly as a way to make sure he got out of the house at least a few times a week during the Chicago winter. After over a year of work with a trainer and 3+ years at a standing desk, he'll share some tips on how to stay active and moving when we're desk bound for 40+ hours a week.
We'll talk about how to set up your space, how to get your body moving, and we'll even stand up & move to practice some movements that you can do at home.
Mindful Programming :: Doug Dobrzyski
Like life, programming can be challenging, stressful, and anxiety-provoking. Programming also requires focus over extended time periods. How does one deal with these aspects, both in programming and life?
This year Doug has been learning about mindfulness and practicing everyday (or at least trying). In doing so, he has found it immensely helpful and thought, why not apply mindfulness to programming? Turns out, he is not the first to ask this.
This presentation will cover what mindfulness is and is not, the benefits of mindfulness, types of mindfulness, how to practice mindfulness, and how mindfulness can be applied to the world of programming. We'll even do a short mindfulness exercise.
