freight exchange services module(s)

We are planning to develop a module (set of modules) which will satisfy all the basic needs of building a freight exchange related web application. We are open to take some students who are interested in this area.

1.submission forms
2.search interface.
3.business directories
4.route planner
etc etc

Basically we would like to implement this route planner as GSOC idea.

How does your proposal meet the stated goals of the Knight Drupal Initiative program?:

People who are interested to get their freight exchange biz online can make it possible with minimal technical skills.It will be free for the public.

How long will your project take to complete?:

Our complete set are divided into sub modules as well. So, it can range from a month to more than that.

How will you implement and distribute your project?:

Primarily Global Solutions is developing this module in their course of handling one of their customers.They are interested to involve some students as well & we will release this to drupal community under GPL.

What is your total budget estimate and how much funding are you requesting:

Hello,

I am a Junior Computer Science and Computer Information Technology student in the U.S. I think this sounds like a very interesting project. I don't have a lot of experience in freight exchange services, but I do have a lot of experience in PHP and have been working with a company in Drupal Module development for about 5 months now. I feel confident in my skills to work on this project. Is there someone that I could possibly talk with about this project to get more information? Thanks!

Hi,

Let me correct, I think you have a map of carriers(routes) and you want a route through various carriers from some source to some destination. Is this the case? By the way, I'm a 3rd year undergraduate student of Computer Engineering from Delhi University. Currently I'm working on a Drupal module which is now in beta stage and soon will be open sourced. I've a great experience in PHP and C.

I know a few people who'd be willing to pay for Drupal sites with such a module.

I can assure some leads. But it is almost impossible to get them to pay for the module development (the usual Drupal way).

I see great potential.

I am a Undergraduate Student at IIT Bombay, INDIA.
I'm currently working on a similar project - "Mumbai Navigator", with which users will be able to search the route and available transit options in terms of time/money/modes of transport.

The project specified here would require optimization in terms of route and requests. Integrating the whole system with maps will make the process much more interesting and usable.

I haven't worked with Drupal much, but have a good experience in PHP, MySQL content management.
