Taxonom Manager - Bug fixing...

We are getting closer to the official end of SoC, so it's time now to stop implementing new features and to to do a lot of testing and to fix bugs, so that I'm hopefully able to release a first version of the Taxonomy Manager by end of SoC.

Last week I finally added a search bar to the interface. This search bar contains a autocomplete field, which at first allows you to directly select a term for editing. Second, it's also possible to filter out root level terms by typing in some string (non-existing term). This is especially for long and flat vocabularies very useful. A filter, which affects children terms would have much more complexity and would take too much time to implement at the moment.

If you are interested in trying out the Taxonomy Manager or if you would like to help testing, there is of course a dev snapshot available at my project page.

A little thing

One minor issue is that when I mouse over a term whose name fits rather tightly on one line, the up/down arrows appear on the next line, which can result in a lot of text bouncing around. One way to deal with this might be to always leave enough space on the first line for the arrows, having additional text flow to another line if necessary.

Good good Matthias!

Will you be able to publish the latest version on WWW so others can test too? Thanks!

Will give my comments later.

Hi Matthias,

I checked out the test site (http://hias2205.hi.funpic.de/) and was impressed by the job you've done. Great work!

My comments are mostly on behavior:

  1. When merging two terms under the same parent, the resulting merged term is moved out of the parent and becomes a parent itself. Can the merged term remain inside the same parent?

  2. Validation. When merging terms and the user does not enter a name for the new merged terms, I get the error: "Error reading input from 'Main term'". Can you trap this error and say "Please enter a name".

  3. Moving a term - confusion on focus.

Example: terms Albania, Belgium and Canada. If I move "Canada" up by clicking the up arrow, "Canada" moves up but the Up-Down arrow icon stays behind with Belgium (since Belgium is now below Canada). This tends to confuse the user and I believe the Up-Down icon should move along with Canada (the term that we originally moved).

I'm hoping the slowness is just because of the free hosting you are using?

Hth,

hi!
thanks very much for testing and feedback.

Concerning your questions:

ad 1) this is definitely a bug, I think I forget to remove the parent "0" of a newly inserted term
ad 2) oh, yes. There are many more messages, which have to be a bit changed :)
ad 3) I'll try to change this as you suggested

concerning the slowness, I think it's because of the hosting server. I recognized, that at the moment, the hosting server is completely down...

What about taxonomy nodes with long volumes?

Question: I have 10 pages of taxonomy nodes. I need to have a node on the 10th page on the 1st page, not as a child but as a node at equal level to the other 10 pages of nodes. How do I move it?

This is a great module. At first I was wondering why drag and drop was not enabled. Once I saw that it could do multiple pages of taxonomy I understood. Very cool module for very big taxonomy sets.
