UnitTesting: current work

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

After the jump, here's what I know is happening as of late May 2006. Add a comment and or post your activities related to Unit Testing because i am sure this is not comprehensive:

  • I'd like to help out documenting and testing unit testing and PHP simple test and help get automated unit testing done for all of core. I'd also like to get unit testing better documented and easier for contrib module developers. Additionally I'd like to have automated unit tests for all of core and a base set of 4.7 modules before the September 1, 2006 code freeze (overambitious I know!).
  • Angie aka webchick is following up from the simpletest effort 2005 Google Summer of Code project
  • It looks like Thomas Ilsche will be mentoring a 2006 Google Summer of Code project on unit test automation . Go Thomas go. Let us know how we can help document/test this.
  • Steve McNabb has some experience with automated unit testing in CPAN for Perl (basically uploaded Perl contrib modules get a nice gold star/checkmark if the unit tests pass). Perhaps we can convince Steve to work on a similar effort for Drupal contrib modules.

thanks for offerring to help, roland. the docs for the simpletest framework are at http://drupal.org/simpletest. Anyone is welcome to jump in and edit those.

the 4.7 core codebase needs lots more tests. perhaps you can work on exciting various developers to work on parts of this. we need people to focus on tests for pieces like "theme system, unicode, etc.". user, node, and taxonomy systems have working tests already.

will do
