We have been extremely busy here developing the new version of e-Commerce. There has been a lot of interest in the up coming v4 so I have decided to start releasing alpha's so that people can start playing with the new features and help us achieve our goals and get out another great release.
The biggest change is that we have built a completely new payment system, which will allow us to do great things like have inline payment processing from the cart with gateways like Authorize.net and being able to us more features of the payment gateways by allowing the developers to implement things like refunds, and mass payment.
To all the developers of payment gateways I would like you to start developing the new versions of their gateways to take advantage of the new features. ATM the PayPal gateways is the available ATM, but it supports the use of the sandbox, and also PDT (Payment Data Transfer) as well as IPN (Instant Payment Notification)
Other features include a new Customer interface which makes it much easier to use different customer databases, such as CiviCRM and also using new systems like using the location module for the address information.

just wondering..
I downloaded the ecommerce-5.x-4.0-alpha1.tar.gz and installed it - but in the modules admin page actually all the modules indicate they were 5.x-3.3 modules.. Also the update.php didn't indicate any db-updates - and the update module still complains that there's a new version for ecommerce available..
Additionally I somehow can't really find any of the long awaited new functionalities..?¿
Now I'm wondering if only the .info-files were not updated yet and if I'm just too 'blind' to see the new features - or if it actually could be that the tar-gz still contains the files of the previous version..?
