e-Commerce emails

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

With the new version of e-Commerce we now have a lot more control over when events will happen.

No longer do we have just "on payment completion" as a time when something can happen, and also the creation of emails is no longer handled by the payment gateways.

We now have hooks (hook_ec_txn_workflow() and hook_ec_txn_allocation()) which are fired whenever either of the statuses change, and we can tell what the status was and what it is now. So with this new level of control I am wanting to re-evaluate the emails that are sent to the customers. Do we want any new ones, do we want them to be sent at different times.

We currently only have 1 email which is the customer invoice which is sent when the payment is complete. Do we need more, or what.

Your feedback will be most appreciated.

Suggestion

osCommerce implements another email, which is a despatch note (or something similar).

Once the order has been "picked" and sent, another email is sent to notify the customer - this is more of a courtesy mail, but I think it is worthwhile. It adds trust to the customer-store relationship.

My 2 cents

My suggestion would be that

My suggestion would be that invoice e-mail is sent when the transaction is "invoiced". And a receipt e-mail is sent when payment is complete.
