Recomended first steps

I'm just catching up, looks like there is some good stuff going on. As a non-mentor on this project, here are my ideas:

  • Mock up the the three new UI widgets (I always code first, but I've ended up coding too many projects twice due to UI changes).
  • Find candidate places where the widgets can be used (only the places which make sense should be used).

I would at the end like to see these standardized in the Drupal API (like autocomplete text fields) so that using them in other places or modules is easy. With these should come UI guidelines for when to use these elements, how to use them, and when to not use them.

thank you for sharing your thoughts. I am currently in the state of investigating how to design the tree conrol. I'll share my results soon. I'd also like (as you pointed out) to introduce my new widgets in several places within Drupal.

  • Tree control
    • Node edit: Menu item selection
    • Menu edit: Reorder and organize menu items
    • Book outline: Reorder and organize book pages
    • Taxonomy: List terms and reorganzie them
  • Renaming of strings
    • Node listing (admin/node) for renaming node titles
    • Book titles, Menu titles, Menu item titles, Vocabularies, Terms
    • Basically everywhere where a title of an item is displayed
  • Fast toggling
    • (this is actually less important)
    • toggle menu states: collapsed/expanded, enabled/disabled
    • toggle visibility options: publish/unpublish

If you have any other suggestions as to where we can use these widgets, too, please share them.
