We'll have our monthly weeknight Drupal meetup on Tuesday, May 4, from 6:30 – whenever at Zootown Brew on Broadway at the Library in Missoula.

This will be an informal gathering to talk about Drupal, network, show off sites or techniques. Andy will likely have some news/excitement from Drupalcon SF as well. Bring your enthusiasm, laptop, and your Drupal questions/answers.

The location for this meetup is TBA. We could do Zootown Brew again, or get a room at the library with projector, or someplace else. Very different vibes - what do y'all think? Leave a comment below. update: we'll be meeting at the Library.

My thoughts

Though I enjoy the informality of ZooTown, I'd like to see some "how I built it" presentations at one of our Tuesday meetups. Those are easier to do in a more classroom-like setting if there are more than just a few people there.

I'm happy to present on any of my sites, if they are of interest, or hear about other people's work.

In the end, I'm fine with wherever. I learn something new every time we meet!

I would be interested..

I like the idea of some site walk-throughs as well. It might be good to look through a site and how some of the modules and layout are handled. While learning some of topics further involving Drupal, seeing them in action and also how to manipulate them may be beneficial.

Zootown brew is a great spot to gather and seems to accommodate a number of people. If walk-throughs are on the agenda, a projector would be quite useful though. I'm personally excited to get a bit more experience under my belt with some modules outside of Drupal core.I would be willing to present a behind the scenes look at what our group did last semester for the Fair Trade Camaign if we needed more sites to fill time.

I'm also very much looking forward to hearing about DrupalCon, especially after looking through their site a bit more. Amazing to see all the effort and ideas floating around in one place! Excited to find out just what goes down.

Should be a great session!

Drush

Andy,

I'm in "need" of a 15 minute "How to get Drush Up and Running on a Server (local and remote)" session, if you're willing. I understand the power of Drush and, when it's already installed love using it for simple tasks, but I've been unable to get it up and running on my local machine.

I've figured out the Drush install thing, though others may benefit from this. I know that version control (SVN and Git) is an upcoming topic at the MT Programmers Meetup Group, but I could use a double-dose of version control learning, if anyone else is interested.

Meeting room for content

I'd vote for the library or similar facility this time. (Being very new to Drupal, I can't connect the dots without a picture/screen.)

Interests/topics?
1. Drupal-con report!
2. I'd really like to hear the 15 minute Drush lesson requested by Scott! I've read a bit, but haven't attempted to use or install it yet....
3. Site demos with a behind the scenes tour of how it was done (modules used, how skinned, special challenges.)

Best of both worlds

There is a downstairs meeting room at Zootown Brew available if it is not already scheduled. This could be the best of both worlds. I vote for that.

I'm not opposed to that. Do we know if they have a projector? I don't have access to one. Also, how do we go about reserving the room? Think I should take care of that?

Yes!

I will be there, and I have a projector. I will stay until 8:30. Let me know if I need to bring it. :)

FYI, I know three different people who have had usernames/pwd's compromised in public places. I change my psw to something easy before I come, and then change it again when I get into a safe environment.

Back from Drupalcon! Library reserved!

laken's picture

Hey everyone,

I've been following this thread and went ahead and reserved the small meeting room at the Library for this event. The Library has a projector we can use so we don't need to bring one.

For future meetings I'd be very open to exploring the meeting space at Zootown Brew – I haven't followed up on it before now because I heard they charged a fee for its use, but we should really check it out regarding the space and cost. Could be a great option.

I'll update the event info with the Library location, and weigh in on our agenda after I plow through some work that's been delayed.

Looking forward to it!

I got a glance at the famed ZooTown downstairs meeting room last night. It's a bit cellar-like, but would probably be ok for meetings. We had it "reserved" for a meeting last night, but it was double-booked so we were asked to move. The Library might be a better option.

Thanks to everyone who made it out last night to the meetup. It was great to see some new faces. I was concerned that the presentation was too technical for some of our audience, but everyone helped out by asking questions along the way that ended up turning it into a more general, more useful discussion that benefited more people (at least I hope that was the case!)

For those interested in the focused topic I presented, here is a great write-up:

http://www.centurionwebdev.com/content/taking-views-next-level-smart-arg...

Some of the links in that post are broken, so here's what you need to get this working:
- Drupal 6
- Context module
- Views module
- Views default argument from Context module

Although I talked about needing a little bit of custom-written module code, it turns out that for the simple use-case we discussed (showing related articled by the same author) that's now included in the Views default argument from Context module, so no custom code is necessary.

I look forward to seeing all of you again soon! Please feel free to use this group to network and ask questions: just click Create Discussion in the group controls block at top-right, under 'Western Montana' (see screenshot)
