User group meeting

I haven't heard from anyone about an alternate meeting place, so I'm putting this event in the calendar (and booking the usual room at National Union, 15 Auriga Drive).

A few members of our group attended DrupalCon in San Francisco, and offered to talk about what they learned.

Followup from SF

There were a few of us in SF. Steve & I were there from OpenConcept. I met @kasiawaka for the first time there in a BoF (and we do need to meet again). Peter L & Colan were there too.

Not sure who else was there from Ottawa. With 3000 people there it was often hard to find folks. I know there were a few folks I didn't see, even if I was trying to meet up with them and using twitter, SMS & email to try to coordinate.

I spent most of my time in BoF sessions, and know I still need to watch more of the sessions here -> http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=subject%3A%22DrupalCon%202010%22

I think I was the only one from Ottawa at Saturday's core developer summit, but I am hoping that others were there for the unconference on Sunday & dev sprint on Thursday.

I'd like to add another discussion item to the agenda.

I'm getting the sense that there's recently been a lot more momentum for the use of Drupal in the federal government. In some cases, because they've heard of Drupal by name - through Gartner or from the media re whitehouse.gov - and in other cases because senior management have caught the social networking bug and organizations are now experimenting with a number of different tools. They might not have come across Drupal yet but they'll probably get there eventually.

I have some ideas about moving this forward but I really need to bounce them off other people. It would be especially nice if other GoC people can come to this meeting and we could spend a few minutes on this subject.

that sounds like an

that sounds like an interesting discussion.

I just checked the signups, and we only have four people signed up for the meeting. If others are planning on coming, please do sign up.

Hey Lee,

I'm not going to be able to make it out tonight, but given that I work for the GoC, I am interested in your ideas. Feel free to contact be off line via my contact page (or look me up in the Government Electronic Directory Services). Alternatively I would likely be able to make it out to the next meet up.

I do wonder if ride sharing would help to get folks out. I like being able to use NUPGE's facility, but it's not very central.

Public transit out that way isn't easy, but looks like the weather might be good for a bike ride. If there are folks driving out would be good to see if we can't coordinate transportation.

Looking forward to it.

I'm always happy to take

I'm always happy to take people home after (you'll just have to wait till I lock up at the end of the meeting). A couple of people have also offered to pick up at South Keys for anybody who can get there on the bus.

I'm driving from downtown

If anyone needs a lift from downtown, I have room for a few people (but I won't be coming back after).

Sorry, can't make it tonight
