Cowork
SeaDUG coworking is an informal gathering of people working on their individual Drupal projects with laptops. Some discussion happens, but most people work in silence until they need a question answered from the group. Monthly SeaDUG meetings are usually preceeded with coworking.
Coworking also applies to situations where people share spaces on a fee basis. For Seattle spaces see http://wiki.coworking.info/CoworkingSeattle
Or alternately
It becomes social hour and we all chat :) Or some of both.
Silly question, but do
Silly question, but do meeting attendees need to pay a fee to show up early/cowork?
Nope!
Just come on by.
EDIT: ha, didn't see heyrocker's reply. That'll teach me to count on threading.
Awesome
See y'all in a bit...I am finally making it down after meeting most of you at the Summit last October...I'm meeting a colleague there so now I have no excuses!
Nope!
Just come on down!
GoTo Meeting?
If the group was interested, I could set up a GoTo Meeting or GoTo Webinar for the tomorrow's meeting. While there are some limitations (Mac/Windows only), both formats could allow for remote attendance and/or be archived for later viewing. GoTo Meeting allows for 2-way phone conferencing while GoTo Webinar is strictly a 1-way presentation. Thoughts?
GoToMeeting
I think if you were to set it up as audio only on a single computer, that could be a good way for people to participate, though video of the proceedings would of course be better.
Might also want to consider
Might also want to consider using dimdim (http://www.dimdim.com/). Not only is it free for up to 20 remote participants it's also open source. Plus no platform limitations. I think this would be great for those of us who want to participate more often but can't always make it into the city.
taking DUGs virtual?
I didn't get it together to do anything on this for tonight, if drtrueblue or anyone else did that's fantastic! If not perhaps we can discuss it further tonight. I think it would be great to put a plan together, test some things out and eventually consider making it a regular part of the process. I think there is some interest even if it is a small group.
Other comments on this virtual discussion may be found here http://groups.drupal.org/node/64213.
Another agenda item
ksenzee has found a meeting space we can use permanently in South Lake Union at Amazon' new space. The upside is its much bigger and would offer us room to grow. Good network, etc. DOwnside is it is somewhat less accessibly to public trans than a downtown location. You would have to trolley there from Westlake mall if your bus lands downtown. We should talk about this and see if its something we want to commit to.
more info
The actual entry we would use is at approximately 421 Boren Ave N, if you want to map it (not that you can actually see it - satellite pics are of the construction site). There's a whole block of on-street angle parking on the same side of the street, plus it's two blocks off the Mercer St. exit, so for drivers it's very convenient. Can't speak for bus riders, but hey, you know you want an excuse to ride the SLUT at least once a month.
It's basically two conference rooms with a movable divider in between that we could slide back, plus a hallway with restrooms + water fountain + countertop where we could stick refreshments etc. I still need to confirm the guest wifi would be one convenient login we can write on the whiteboard, instead of everybody having to register for access. (I'm 95% certain we can get one login.) There's a projection screen, and I understand a projector is available as well but will have to confirm that too. I'm not sure what the local bar options are but I'm sure someone will know.
If we can find a more convenient permanent space that's big enough, then super. This is just one option in case we can't.
oh, and
Worth pointing out there is some bus service there from downtown - from what I can tell route 17 goes through downtown up Westlake Avenue, and 70 goes through downtown up Fairview. Either one looks like it gets you within two blocks.
Overflow attendance
24 people filled the meeting space at Smashing Ideas.
