It was suggested that we only have an Australia wide group rather than an Australia and Sydney group. I tend to agree. Can anyone come up with a good justification for maintaining a separate group?

Consolidation = better communication
I second that, we should have one Australian Drupal group.
Currently we can not justify a Sydney group or any other geographic location group within Australia.

I disagree
While I quite understand the intention of consolidating the groups, I think that Sydney is far enough away from Melbourne (the center of the australia group) that I generally find most posts in the "australia" group to be of little interest to me most of the time. FWIW, I am subscribed to the australia group as well as the sydney one. Perhaps this should be discussed in more detail at the upcoming sydney meetup. I think there is enough mass for sydney to have its own group, it just hasn't gotten much momentum yet and the more pull from melbourne, the less likely we will gather any momentum in Sydney.

I disagree too
I also find most posts in the "australia" group to be of little interest to me most of the time.
I am subscribed to the Australia Group and the Sydney Group so I am not going to "miss" anything.
Having a seperate group helps me to see other members that are in Sydney. When they post I check out their profile here and on drupal.org
It is slowly growing.
I don't think there is any harm in having a seperate group for Sydney so why not leave it?
There is no advantage in consolidating.
