Welcome to the Singapore Drupal group

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.
jayjenxi's picture

I started this group in hope of bringing the Drupal community in Singapore together. I'm sure there are several Drupal enthusiasts out there. I had some problem trying to loan Drupal books from the National Library.

Singapore is a small country and I think we can meet up more easily compared to Drupalists from countries that have larger land areas. We can learn about Drupal together and help each other out.

Help to spread the word and get more people to join up. I hope this group will thrive and help us become better Drupalists!

Looking at Drupal and would love to speak with some other folks that know it. Have also spent time previously looking at and using Joomla - there are many types of sites more suited for Joomla!

Its great to see a group in Singapore for drupal. I'm new to this group and the site. But i see only a few of them in this group and also there is not much activity happening here. If we need to learn more or share our experiences then how do we do it.

Hope we can have some issues and solution for those issues shared, and add in few features some of you guys would have explored and if need meet up to have a knowledge sharing session.
I see a lot of wonderful sites using drupal but i personally have been struggling to get things done might be because i dont know any knowledge in programming..

But to hope to know and share more with you guys...

Hi Singapore Drupalist

deepkey's picture

Hi Guys,

Don't seems to see any keen drupalist in here.
Most of the comments here are either advertising or still advertising.

Don't have much of discussion of how you come to realise Drupal,
what improvements you have done to drupal and the problems you have....

I'm working for a web solution company, but I more interested in how we can solve more problems with Drupal.

Singapore is rather slow in terms of web developments compared with the other countries.
Other countries or paying big money to use web to solve part of their companies operations.

Due to the country is small, market is small and anything can be procure within distance,
the value of website is hugely undervalued and clients don't appreciate web industry professionals.

I really hope this group can stay true to the Group Creator Jay's direction.
Discuss and help each other, expand the knowledge and awareness of Drupal.

Cheers!

Hi there. We are looking to replace our static Dreamweaver site (www.AmericanDragons.sg) with a CMS based site (using Drupal of course).

As with all volunteer organizations we live with the skills that folks have and the time they are willing to donate.

If anyone wants to get together for coffee or drinks, I work in Suntec Tower. e-mail miklosgaal at gmail dot com

Try playing around with Drupal

deepkey's picture

Hi Miklos,

Have you tried installing Drupal on your current web server?
If not, you may like to try installing it on your server in a subdomain or separate folder.
The following are some of the support documents.
http://drupal.org/getting-started/install
http://drupal.org/getting-started/before

Or you can try it out at the following.
http://php.opensourcecms.com/scripts/details.php?scriptid=191&name=Drupal

Also for your revamp. What's your objective on this revamp?
From the objective, then you will be able to draft out the ways to achieve it
and the functionalities required.

Thanks

Hi all,

Did someone use forward module before.

Well recently was using it and getting alot of spam from anonymous script.. any fixes for this?

Anyway what i manage to find is using Captcha or only restricted to login users to use the forward features.

Hey Queenie,

Implementing the captcha or reCaptcha module will prevent quite a bit of spams.
The maths 1 + 2 captcha is already broken by spam bots...

Hi guys, I just started

WildfireXT's picture

Hi guys,

I just started Drupal a few months back and up to now I'm still constantly surprised by its flexibility!
I used to think wordpress was great until I came upon this platform.

I'm from Singapore too. So far I haven't noticed too many development houses around the area. A pity really, the potential of this CMS is pretty big even when compared against .net or other web-based frameworks.

BTW, I've been looking into building social apps using Drupal. So far haven't seen too many SaaS web apps use drupal as a platform. Is Drupal only suitable for content publishing?

Drupal for anything and everything

azhan.moin's picture

Hi there

I'm from Singapore and we've used Drupal to do things that not many people would even think of -- such as integration with a back-end J2EE system, connectors with .NET systems. We've done drupal-powered helpdesks, intranets, directories, business intelligence solutions - you're absolutely right that Drupal has great potential.

We're always looking for opportunities to do unusual things with Drupal.

Let us know if you have an idea which you think might sound crazy - you'll never know... ;)

A google search on "Drupal

binarycubes's picture

A google search on "Drupal Social Networking" should give you a good idea of the available modules to build your social network. Take a look especially at the OG module. I think it has been coming along very well. I have seen it implemented on "Open Atrium" and it is pretty impressive.

I am hoping to meet up with fellow Drupal developer in the near future ... to discuss about Drupal and also for possible collaborations.

Binarycubes huh. Hi Stan,

WildfireXT's picture

Binarycubes huh. Hi Stan, we've met before actually. Hope everything's going well with you.

Yeah I checked out Open Atrium. Seems like it'll have very interesting applications, maybe not for what I'm planning now but certainly worth taking a closer look. Reminds me of 37 signals's base camp.

Dear drupal friends

mlowkwai's picture

Finally, i've read throw our spore drupal friends messages. Thank you so much for the starter to start this website, So that we can see each other message. I know this name drupal because of Joomla. Both have their own beauty area. I like drupal more. Just that i m not from developer background, i can't change and make the design, template, featues that i want. I spent about 6 months to read/search articles on drupal.org. I m tired to read so many of them.....Anyone interested to have live group chat and sharing what is your experience in drupal....i want to know more and deep in drupal. Come on! Sharing make us perfect!

Hi Mlowkwai, First thing

queenielow's picture

Hi Mlowkwai,

First thing 1st.. Drupal is way better then Joomla.. haha.. If all drupalers agree with me..
anyway What do u need to know about Drupal ? Coz learning drupal without PHP background is like reading a book that you never understands it.

Meet up with all drupalers is cool to me too.. everyone can share experiences and get to know how many drupalers in Singapore.. ;)

But seriously, start from learning how to create a module.. or learn abt PHP and u'll see some light.. OR if u just wanna know abt look and feel, read up CSS .. :)

Cheers

I m serious on drupal

mlowkwai's picture

Hi Queenie, :-)) Lot of thanks. Excited to see your message to me.
Yes, you are right! Learning drupal without PHP background is like reading a book that you never understands it. I read drupal articles and installed different modules but can't understand how it works, its meaningless. Ok, i m very serious on drupal, so shall i start learing how to create a module? or learn about PHP 1st? any faster way to master both?

Hey mlowkwai, Do you have any

queenielow's picture

Hey mlowkwai,

Do you have any programming backgound? if u dont, u will need alot of time to digest the logical of programming.. Maybe u can try to pick things up from the api page. http://api.drupal.org/

If u have any qns, just let me know.. i'll try my best to answer u.

queenielow, vadim.eremeev and the rest.

I'm not a great programmer, was from CGI/Perl and solely switched to Php just because of Drupal. I might not be able to help much, but I'm willing to share what I'd done with all my projects. In fact, I'm now in another field of this industry.

But still, maybe we could meet up, discuss and have our network bonding session? At least we know who and where to look for when we need a helping hand, right here locally.

Hi All,

I'm fairly new to Drupal. After creating the basic website, my simple requirements are as follows:

  • Create a table with multiple columns, to hold data
  • Users would be able to view this Table, according to their permissions, be able to Add/Edit their OWN data (It's added as a new row to the table)
  • Users should not be able to view any other user's data (or Row of data in the Table)

However simple this requirement looks, I wasn't able to find any straightforward tutorial or solution for implementing this. Or maybe I was overwhelmed by the available options of modules.

Would really appreciate guidance on this!

Cheers,
Hassan
