Now that this baby's put to bed, I thought we could try something different.
Working with volunteer groups in the past on releasing newsletters, I've had success in getting things out the door when we've set up an editorial schedule.
An editorial schedule lets you:
- identify or highlight certain themes,
- gives anyone interested in writing a list of subjects to choose from or, at the very least, a range of topics from which to start
- helps set the tone of the publication.
- idenitifies more complex topics that might need multiple articles or more extensive research.
- helps catch any holes in content before they become a problem.
Then we can create wiki pages for each issue and edit them collaboratively like we did previously.
The calendar itself should probably be a wiki page.
Thoughts?

Works for me
I've always worked to an editorial schedule too. So presumably you're talking about setting a deadline for content and a theme for each issue in advance?
Having wiki pages in advance for issues would allow people to include content unsuitable for the current issue (like a feature article or perhaps notice of a deadline for submissions for something) without thinking "I'll do it later" and then losing that content or forgetting. And if we could work to a schedule and stick to both content and release deadlines, we'd be able to include more time sensitive material.
I'm all for that!
By getting a few issues in
By getting a few issues in the queue we might be able to determine what kind of schedule we could commit to as a group. I'm open to either approach though depending on what the others in the group think.
Time sensitive material is really going to be a challenge for us right now. I'm certain though that if we can get a regularity to contributions and getting issues out, then those deadline oriented benefits will also be realized.
Maybe we could start work on the schedule and see where that takes us?
Sounds good, this late in
Sounds good, this late in the month a January release is probably most likely.
Great to see you getting involved trevortwining!
Happy to help! So I think I
Happy to help!
So I think I can create the Wiki page, so I guess I'll go ahead and do that.
