Start:
2008-01-15 19:00 - 21:00 US/Eastern

Mike Schinkel of NewClarity and Atlanta Web Entrepreneurs will be killing two birds with one stone by demonstrating:

1.) The underlying architecture of Drupal including CCK and Views, and
2.) How to debug Drupal 5.x using PhpED from NuSphere.

Mike will cover how Drupal menus, blocks, and URL aliases work, how Drupal's "hook" system works in modules, how themes are used by Drupal, and Mike will also provide a high-level overview of building modules in Drupal. He will demonstrate all of these aspects by literally tracing through a basic Drupal application using the PhpIDE debugger. Mike will provide handouts for the presentation with diagrams for the PHP-challenged so that everyone can follow along.

Of course this will be an intermediate to advanced-level presentation for people without programming skills, and a beginner-to-intermediate level presentation for those with programming skills. While PHP-level programmers will get the most out of the presentation it will still have great value for non-programming Drupal admins. Even if you don't ever plan to program in PHP, knowing a little bit about Drupal "under the covers" can make it much easier to build Drupal application and add 3rd party modules.

Prerequisites for the 7pm meetup including having actually installed and configured a basic Drupal 5.x system and having enduser-admin understanding of Content, Content Types, Menus, Blocks, Themes, and URL Aliases as well as having installed and configured CCK and Views.

Many thanks to and Andre Lunde, for leading last month's discussion on external Web services, and Drupal.

The location and time are the same: 7-9pm, 5 Seasons restaurant in Alpharetta, GA., on Old Milton Parkway, about one mile east of GA 400 off of exit 10.

Hi,
My name is Stephen Adkins.
I live in Marietta and work downtown Atlanta.

I'm reasonably new to Drupal (a couple of months).

Where I work, The Rubicon Group, we are adopting Drupal for a new generation of our online service.

I also am the organizer of the SharedUniverse Project, a Free Software metaproject
which aims to protect and extend online computing freedom.
We have selected Drupal as the platform for this new virtual world.

I look forward to meeting you who are more experienced in Drupal from around the Atlanta area.
If there is a chance, I would like to test the interest of the Atlanta Drupal community in such a
project. This could be yet another great opportunity for Drupal.

See you Tuesday night.

Stephen
