Modal window API module akin to WYSIWYG API module

Hey guys,

Looking to start my first module, but doing some probing first.
The idea is that there are SO many modal window plugins out there for jquery, and it seems whenever someone wants one on their drupal site, they create a new module. It would seems that these API plugins likely have a lot in common, so creating a "bridge" API module akin to WYSIWYG API module would be a big plus.

I'm thinking that this should also work with Libraries API, so I'm starting to dig into that now.

Any thoughts? Does this exists already. There's a Modal frame API module, which I thought might be similar, but it appears not to offer this interchangeability functionality, which is really the point. I've contacted the module maintainer anyhow, and am waiting on a reply.
