The Seattle Drupal User Group is happy to have participated in a presentation by The Seattle Times NWSource.com staff demonstrating their conversion to the Drupal content management framework. Please watch the video and peruse the notes from this excellent talk in which NWSource.com producers and engineers detail their experience with Drupal and the challenges they faced.

Special thanks to The Seattle Times and staff for hosting and and giving this informative presentation. We'd also like to thank the SeaDUG community who came out for the event. Please join us again in the future for more Drupal events in the Northwest!

thanks and video question
thanks for putting this video together and consolidating the notes! i was disappointed to miss the event, and i'm glad i've got a chance to catch up.
i've got a quick question about the video... it looks like you're using OpenPackage Video at seadug.org. how was the transcoding process for such a big video file? did you do the transcoding locally or via openpacakge.biz, and if the latter, did you experience any problems via curl/cron?
thanks again.

Flash Media Player
Actually uploaded the video file to my webhost and converted to FLV format for streaming.

I thought about trying to use Media Mover, but chose the fastest path to get the presentation up and viewable.
Happy you got to enjoy the talk after the fact.
Any chance you'd post a link
Any chance you'd post a link for downloading the video? I'm in a relatively low-bandwidth environment, so streaming video is not an option. Thanks.
Added direct link to MOV
Good suggestion. I added a direct link to the 155MB MOV file.
Thanks very much. Download
Thanks very much. Download in progress. I'll be able to see the video when download completes in anywhere between 20 minutes and 6 hours... ;-}
hmm, interesting. i didn't
hmm, interesting. i didn't realize web hosts were starting to offer their own transcoding services... good to know.
i watched the whole talk yesterday -- we manage small sites for the most part, so it's great to hear managers of such a large site describe their work with Drupal. thanks again.
Seattle Times
I read that the ultimate intention is to put the Seattle Times itself on Drupal -- is that correct?
I'm sorry, but the project
I'm sorry, but the project and presentation were NWsource.com-specific. It doesn't involve SeattleTimes.com.
Not according to this

Apparently the rollout will happen to other NW sites ... seattle Times (seattletimes.nwsource.com) is but one example ...
