I love this theme, but I'm thinking I'd like to put a video (not yet sure of the file format) in the place where the banner is.
Can someone point me to some resources that might help me do it. Anything that takes advantage of existing drupal modules would be best.
P.S. I'd like the video to sit in the background (as the benner is) so that the site information can still overwrite the video. Is this easily possible?

Well, I don't know how experienced with Drupal, but you could use Panels to do this (but Panels takes a considerable amount of time to learn and although it's powerful, it's not easy to use).
Probably the easiest way to do this is to create a new block, then insert the video in the block using the editor, or embed if hosted somewhere else. Once this is done, just place the new block in the current banner location and remove the image block. Sorry, but I'm not real proficient with Slate (I use Prosper and Marina). But I think you can do this and accomplish what you're looking for.
