One fast way to boost Drupal's analysis tools will be to port other open source packages to Drupal.

I've ported much of the JavaScript reporting from PHPMyvisites, and I am interested to know what other open source analytics systems people have used, what they like about them, what they hate, and what we should bring to drupal.

I am especially interested in displaying information: graphs, charts, etc. Any good packages out there?

Can you share what you have so far?

Mark, logging is turning out to be top Drupal administration task that is being identified in the Drupal administration interviews.

Is there anything you can share or demonstrate?

Cheers,
Kieran

Hi Kieran,

Cool. I'm glad to see that logging is getting some attention. I'd love to see this get better.

See: http://drupal.org/node/70941

My first attempt to improve the logging capabilities was to clone and extend the client side stats myPHPSites provides. It runs a javascript on the client's browser to determine things like resolution, if Flash is installed, etc.

I stripped out the client's OS and other items we can get from server side logging. I added some code i found to determine connection speed. I'm not certain this code works, but most of the technique is pretty sound. It uses an AJAX callback to get the info into drupal. I think it would be a good basis for further work.

My investigation indicated that modeling, but recoding, myPHPVisites would be the most productive method. Where appropriate, code can be copied and pasted, but I don't think we could simply wrap it in hook_whatever.

Keep me posted of any developments on this.

Cheers,
-Mark
