Hi Friends!!!
We are thinking of organizing a Drupal Camp here in Ahmedabad and thought of having some suggestions from all Drupalers to organize this camp.
We are expecting more than 300 attendees to join us in this camp. Any comments/suggestions on tracks, sessions, length of the event, ways to better the event etc. are more than welcome.
Since Drupal is a community driven CMS, we thought that the community is best to give us useful suggestions to organize this event.

I would point out the upcoming Drupal Conference in Sydney as something to look to for ideas. Also, it is aimed at the international community including India so you might consider also working with us.

Thanks for the info. This helps. I think many small startups from India won't be able to make it to Australia. Our goal is to have some real good 3 to 4 days of Drupaling in Ahmedabad where many current Indian Drupal Service providers as well as other companies looking to get exposure in Drupal can come in and participate.

I am also thinking of conducting one at cochin, India. may be the second one.
There should be a sessions on theme develeopement and module development. It can be made more successful if done in association with opensource cummunity especially. PHP. Precence of a few speakers from the Drupal Conference in Sydney would be an asset.

We can discuss any Kochi or Kerala meetups on there. I'll forward you my contact details as well. Lets start out with something informal and then have things progress on from there. Informal, then barcamps, then conferences (very important to reach out to the domestic market and press) and so on.
As for Drupalcamp Ahmedabad, its a possibility but not a certainty that I can make it. Lets see what we can do with Kochi/Kerala and bring that success to Ahmedabad (which seems to be the Drupal Capital State of India. Congratulations to Gloscon for that.)

Its official now - just got official confirmation of venue - First Drupal Camp India will be at Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Technology between August 8 and 10. It will have a huge Job Fair too. We'll be working closely with Drupal Association Event Organizing committee to work up the agenda.

Roshan, thanks for posting. Try to be modest and focused in your inclusion of groups when posting. For obvious reasons many people will not make it to India from the Healthcare or the Ruby (on rails) for Drupal group. It would be best to save your announcement of the event once it's actually confirmed with obvious information.
Also be sure to work closely with the event organizing group first and foremost. There have been some huge blunders lately, particularly with regards to marketing of events, and you'll be best to avoid them by getting organized first in event organizing.

Hi,
I must appreciate Rajat and all for having such an idea.. But totally agree with Amazon that we must organize in a way that it can be channelize to the best. There was one barcamp in IIM Ahmedabad in Jan. though it was great but for those who are looking to do management and put up their own sites. It hardly had anything interesting or new about Drupal. Though lot of excellent management lessons could be learnt.. but that has to be expected as we all know about IIM.
Point which I want to make is let's have some days of drupaling but in a way that we can really contribute something good back to drupal. May be make some tutorials for futher references and I guess, we should plan for future development. Also we can provide platform for geeks where we can easily transfer many modules to 6 as that is need of hour as of now.
Let's have small conference somewhere on skype and decide something, let's see if people really want to do something in drupal besides just arranging it. As we have to spread that correct knowledge. We all may not be able to go Australia, but instead of having it in different cities I would prefer somewhere in India and where people can come in. I am based in Ahmedabad and looking forward for anything that really makes sense and anywhere in India.. Asia would also work...
I still appreciate idea of having one in India, but it has to be more fruitful. As we have sites like drupal.in and such but they are very inactive or totally inactive. Let's have first drupal meetup in India that really OPEN :)

There are obviously going to be people who want to know what is Drupal, its features, etc. One way to promote Drupal in India is to see that C-Level executives of some big companies, academicians, students, developers -all attend this event and there is something interesting for everyone.
