Last week at Drupalcon in Boston I realised that it's just not possible to apply for a development FP7 (the 7th Framework Program of the European Union) for Drupal. Things are going so fast that any plan would be obsolete before the project could get granted. That's why I think it would be the most interesting to do a proposal for a series of expert meetings throughout Europe that brings together people to discuss their implementation of the semantic web in Drupal, every time followed by a code sprint.
The core developers involved in Semantic Drupal development that are located outside of Europe could be invited as speakers (e.g. only European companies normally qualify for funding), the actual participants could be companies or universities in Europe that organise the meetings.
Who would be interesting in taking part in such a project and organise one of the meetings. Is there anybody who has the capacity to lead the consortium?

FP7
For people like me who just remotely remember the term "FP7" at all: that's the EU powered "Framework Programme" (7th edition, so to say) which yields high amounts of funding in return for considerable administrative overhead.
thx
thx for clarifying

maybe not for the current semantic approach
Your right that the current semantic web approach is moving to fast. But several other projects are possible. The question is if we can find researchers with core development potential interested in a same project and a FP7 calls where it can fit. So I totally agree with you that expert meeting are the first task to take on. I guess a lot more needs to be discussed, making other priorities clear etc. I'll hope our new group academics will be available soon to continue discussions and efforts to get results on this.
