Address...
We will start with a orientation/planning session Friday evening at 18:00 to see what people want to work on and then we'll take it from there.
This will take place at:
Café Art Java
837, Mont-Royal E.,
Montréal, Québec,
H2J1W9, Canada
514-527-9990
The goal of the session(s) is not to provide "tech support" to all the Drupal enthusiasts in the Montreal area (we'll have to organise another event for that), it is to bring developers together to collaborate on moving the Drupal project forward.
Koumbit.org will provide some drinks/food/other for the occasion.
We're running a little late...
(We = chx, Jeff, Moshe, and I)
Will probably be there about 6:30 or so. Sorry! :(
Process Around Additions to Core/Releases of New Modules
Hi -
I'm wondering if this meetup might be an appropriate place to start a conversation about standards for releasing new modules, upgrading existing modules etc. Right now it appears that people can release modules or upgrade modules and there is little to no oversight before they 'go live' so to speak. Maybe I'm wrong about this and there is a process, but perhaps not everyone is following it. Here's an example.
The flexinode module for Drupal 4.7. There are a couple of conversations in forums on drupal.org where people are unclear if the flexinode module has been released for 4.7, if it only works on 4.72, if it's in core or not in core etc.
Then if you go and look at the actual module code you find little notes like the following:
// if anyone knows a better way to pass back an array and key value at the same time without passing the $form by
// ref I would like to know ;)
foreach($items as $key => $item) {
$form[$key] = $item;
I live and work in Montpelier, VT for a small webshop called Eggplant Active Media http://eggplant.coop
I'm not a developer, I'm a project manager who spends a fair amount of time doing bug research for our drupal sites. So I have somewhat of an understanding of Drupal, but I'm no expert.
I would be happy to come up for an afternoon to have this discussion if you think it would be appropriate or useful. I apologize if this isn't the right place to throw this out, but it seems like you might be the people to talk this over with.
Thanks!
linda
Discussions around changing
Discussions around changing Drupal processes are really best raised either at DrupalCons where the major decisionmakers such as Dries are present, or via the various mailing lists where everyone can take part. Such discussion might also have a place at something like a more general Drupal meetup, where you could try and network and organize with others locally who are interested in standardizing things to some extent.
By contrast, the meetup on Friday/Saturday is most likely just going to be a small group of 7-10 developers who are hacking away at code -- not a typical Drupal meetup. There will therefore be a lot less discussing and a lot more bleary eyes in front of laptops trying to get a bunch of features/bug fixes into the newest version of Drupal before the code freeze. ;) So it would probably make more sense to keep checking back to this group to see when the next more "general" Drupal meetup is scheduled, as those tend to be more discussion-oriented.
So sad ....
I wanted to come to Montreal to attend this event, as well as take the family to see that beautiful city afterwards ...
However, we have visitors for the weekend and can't make it...
