Hi all,
After the success of the first ever South Wales Drupal Meetup on 8 October 2010, we've decided as a group we can tolerate each others company for at least another session! :) j/k!
This is basically the kick of to discuss any topics we'd like to cover and any other points of interest for the agenda. We should also think about venue and dates etc.
So feel free to throw your thoughts into pot!
Many thanks
Jonathan

Didn't like to muddy the
Didn't like to muddy the first post with my personal thoughts so...
This is something Jamie mentioned, to maybe touch on in the agenda for the October Meetup but we were too busy enjoying ourselves. The idea of "doing something" together online intrigued me and it'd be good to hear any ideas and thoughts.
Hi :) Good to meet you last
Hi :)
Good to meet you last night, and everyone else. I'm thinking if every meet is at least that successful, we should get a nice little community emerging.
I was just hoping for a place to show off what we're working on, and get some ideas & inspiration from things that other people bring along to show off. Fro next month, I'm happy to volunteer to talk about something.... It could be how to do functional testing with Selenium, it could be covering some of the basics of Drupal for the guys who are new to it - if you've got a preference, reply here :)
I'm sure we could use our office again next time (not that we've asked yet)... If someone's got somewhere else in mind, it might be nice to move it around a bit.

Good to meet you too Ru. Personally, I'd be very interested to hear you talk more about Selenium...

Good to meet you guys too, I'd be up for learning more about Selenium, and a place to share our experiences and what we've found that's cool would be great. A chance to cover some basics again is always good.
It'd be great to use your offices again, I live in Bridgend, so it's not really central, but happy to try and arrange something back there if other places (in Cardiff) become difficult to arrange. The burden shouldn't be on you guys for food though, I'm sure we can all chip in for food and drink.
We're arranging the next one for a Tuesday, like Jamie said, it's 2 for 1 on Tuesdays, happy days! :)
Tuesdays suit me better, how
Tuesdays suit me better, how about something central Cardiff?
Tuesdays
Yeah, I think that Tuesday was the general consensus.
If the venue is more central then I'll be driving from the bay so could pick up instanceofjamie and rupertj on the way if that helps.

Tuesday seems sensible. Who doesn't like half price pizza? ;)
Whoops!
I was sure I'd commented on this thread, but I guess I must've been dream-replying. Again.
Thanks to everyone for coming along, and I'm mildly chuffed that it's taken on a life of its own already :D To add my own tuppence to the pot:
Not really too fussed about where we do meetups, but I have a niggling thought that it might be better to have networking facilities, decent sized screens, internet access, etc if there's a proper old presentation going on. Personally, I'd probably find a pub frustrating and distracting, but probably alright for an after-the-event drinks type arrangement.
Personally keen to learn more about themeing, especially if it's in Drupal 7. I've already been shown lots of selenium stuff, but am happy to see it again ;o)
A date is something we should settle on ASAP, I think. Tuesdays in November are the 2nd, 9th, 16th (my birthday's the 17th btw), 23rd and 30th.
In the future, I'm thinking that maybe we could have some code workshop type arrangements? Where people with a problem to tackle bring it along, and we all pitch in with ways to solve it?
This forum seems like enough for now, but we could build a SWDUG community website in the future maybe? What would we do with it?
Lots of thoughts bubbling up...

November
Any Tuesday in November would be good for me.
I like the idea of building a SWDUG community site. I get the impression that we all have things that we'd like to learn (or learn more about) so maybe we could use the site as a learning/teaching tool as well as a web presence for the group?

Any Tuesday is good for me, and I also like the idea of a SWDUG community site. :)

I'm going to stick my neck
I'm going to stick my neck out and pick a date then :) 9th?
I'm agreed on the location - Pubs are a bit of a PITA if we want to do anything that's not sitting there chatting. (Unless of course anyone's got access to a pub with a well equipped meeting room we can use for free ;) )
One solution I've seen for a nice community site is to aggregate loads of other sources. So we can have our collected twitter streams, anything on flickr tagged with #swdug, events from somewhere else, etc.... Then it's a bit more alive than the normal forum that no-one uses.....
+1 for November 9th from me.
+1 for November 9th from me.
+1 Nov 9th, kinda works out
+1 Nov 9th, kinda works out well as it's month since the last one - start as we mean to go on innit!
If the venue is more central
Alternatively I can pick up Tim or anyone else (based centrally in Cardiff) that may need a lift to the bay, happy to help out either way if it's a problem for anyone.
Snap :) (which, according to the Mrs., rules me out of any meetups that day and probably most of the week if my family are anything to go by!)
All other Tuesday's are cool by me.
Agree with all of Jamie's points re: pub could be distracting and nice to have media facilities etc. Just sorry I can't chip in on that note! :(
+1 for theming! Plus code workshops sound cool to me, that'd be a great way to help each other out and learn at the same time. Plus I got shed loads of problems I can bring along! j/k! (...ish)
+1 for the SWDUG website, sort of answers the niggling question of what we "can do together online" maybe?
All this sounds very promising and positive I must say, looks like were all on the same wavelength! :)
Commitment
Okay, so it's gone a bit quiet. This is good, it usually means noone has a strong disagreement.
Since noone's suggested an actual alternative I'm going to assume we're okay to meet again at 6pm on the 9th of November, in the communal space at the Studios, 3 Burt Street, Cardiff Bay.
If noone has any objection over the weekend, I'll post the event and make it public on Monday.
How's that sound?

Happy days! :)
Happy days! :)
Thanks again to SubHub for
Thanks again to SubHub for their accomodation. My two pence is that we all bring a few drinks to the party so that the SubHub crew are in the least, slightly compensated for their kind generosity re:the pizza and accommodation etc. If anyone can think of anything else to help out, please feel free to be imaginative.
Once again though, big up to the SubHub crew! :)
Hi SWDUG'ers
Just joined and would like to meet other developers working with Drupal in South Wales. It would be great to see other peoples projects and get a real world understanding of the design decisions they've had to make and i'd personally benefit a great deal from this. Im in Caerphilly and can make the 9th if everyone is ok with me tagging along.
Thanks
Pete
Sorry PJones
Pete,
This was on 9th November 2010.
Maybe you could organise another meetup?
I think the thing holding us back is a need for a free venue.
