What installation profiles and distributions are you using or plan to use?

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

We are evaluating various of the latest options for creating campus sites using Drupal. In addition to the always fun joy of installing all sites manually whether using multisite and drush or not, I'd like to discuss the options for mass installations.

There are now quite a number of distributions and installation profiles that can be used:

We use OpenScholar at the moment. Once I get my aegir instance up I think we'll look at other distributions.

Any commentary about how you have felt about using OpenScholar? I've tried with Acquia to get some presentation on it, but so far hasn't worked out. We've got a test install, but don't want to invest too much time into it unless we are really gonna roll it out.

We've liked it. The features are really nice and it's really easy to build a site. I would just set up a test site at your school and give it a try. It's really easy to install and get going. We've only rolled it out to our graduate students, but early next year we'll be rolling it out to Faculty also.

UCSB efforts

Hello,

I can't speak for everyone on campus, but there's a few efforts that I know of. We are currently exploring a few different install profiles/distributions:

  • OpenAtrium - it powers our drupal.csf.ucsb.edu site, which is the community hub for drupal development at UCSB
  • OpenScholar - toying with the idea of rolling it out for researchers, who tend to not have a home for personal web sites.
  • UCSB Base Install Profile - We have created a custom install profile, which tries to grab the top 20 (or 30, depending on how it grows) modules for Drupal 6, and prep a site to use our Features. All of it is available at drupal.csf.ucsb.edu

Nice. I think a lot of

Nice. I think a lot of campuses are moving to the model of creating standardized install profiles. We have done it here at state and have just started rolling them out, but we are rolling them out on central IT's hosting.

We are also experimenting with OpenScholar, but haven't rolled it out yet. Redndahead gave a good presentation on OpenScholar at BADCamp last weekend, really want to push out a test version now to see what kind of early adoption we might get.

Have you guys considered releasing your install profiles up on github? Maybe we need a central repository for CSU/UC Drupal projects. Well probably no maybe about it, we definitely need one so we can share custom modules, install profiles, and such. Just a question of where it should be hosted, who should have access to it, and how to help people contribute.

Thanks for sharing with us.
