CANCELLED - Maryland Drupal Meetup on Wednesday January 26 @ 7pm
Due to inclement weather, the MD group meetup for January has been cancelled. We will reschedule shortly.
Come out to the MD Drupal meetup and brainstorm for a future Maryland Drupal Camp. The MD Drupal meetup is occurring on January 26th at PMG's offices in Columbia.
The meetup starts around 7PM and round table discussions will begin at 7:30.
While we usually accept presentations, we'd like to keep this meetup open discussion. If you have something really interested to present, please contact Ron (ron@lithicmedia.com or 410-726-7869) to see if we can add a spot for presentations.
Read moreQuestion: Is node author considered a node attribute?
Hi
I am trying to distinguish between node fields (title, body, cck fields) and all the other descriptive bits of information that are associated with the node. What would you call author, publish date, update date, NID, tax terms, node path, node outline placement, node input filter, etc. Would you call them node attributes? They are like metadata but not officially.
thoughts?

November DC Drupal meetup is on Monday - 11/8
The November DC Drupal meetup will be this coming Monday (November 8) starting at 7:00 pm at the upstairs bar at Stetson's.
This month instead of our usual lightning talks, we're asking folks to give two minute site tours. What's this? Your chance to show off your Drupal site, cool/unique/interesting functionality, or a fun design implemented on Drupal on the big screen. Anyone can give a tour - we ask that you keep it to two minutes and that you prepare a few slides (no more than 5-6) showing off your site and submit these slides by noon on Monday since there's no internet at Stetsons. Want to give a tour? Please post in the comments and get in touch with me.
The DC Drupal meetups are open to everyone with an interest in Drupal and are a great opportunity to learn more about what Drupal can do and what folks are building with it. Hope to see you there!

Drupal's popularity is growing. More and more people are being handed Drupal sites without any understanding of how the site was created or how to maintain it. Do you know someone like that? Are you in that boat?
If you learn how Drupal works, how to perform basic "build" tasks, managing an existing site becomes a lot less challenging. Please consider signing up for:

When you build pages in Drupal, you typically plan your layout and assemble your pages within the structure defined by your theme. This concept is discussed in the Planner's Guide chapter Create a Design Plan.
In this short tutorial (http://planningdrupalsites.com/training/overview-drupal-content-layout-m...), we will expand on these concepts and explore how you, as a builder, can change your structures and layouts without editing your theme.

Our next DC Drupal meetup will be on Monday, October 11th starting at 7:00 pm at the upstairs bar at Stetson's.
Beers will be cracked at 7:00 pm and the formal portion of the meetup will start at 7:30 pm with a discussion on Drupal 7. Topics will likely include is it ready yet, when will it be released, what's new in this releases, what changes should everyone be aware of, and what road bumps will there be for upgrading. Jeff will solicit questions from the group and ask people to share their experience to help answer them. So come ready with LOTS of questions, and for those who have worked with Drupal 7, be ready to share your experiences.
My colleagues at Development Seed will get things started by talking about their experience upgrading modules like Features, Context, Admin, and Strongarm and how it led to the creation of something new - Build Kit - that could help others working in Drupal 7.
These meetups are open to everyone with an interest in Drupal, and they're a great opportunity to learn more about the open source framework - there is usually a lot of experience in the room - and meet local developers. We have a meetup each month on the second Monday of the month at Stetsons. Hope to see you there!

Hands-on Intro to Drupal Content Layout Modules: Herndon VA 11/10
Dates: TBD
Description: In this classroom course you will learn to use modules designed to help you (as a builder) manipulate your Drupal interface without editing your theme. Create unique layouts that your theme does not support. Layout your node fields so they don't just appear one after the other. Make the node edit form less busy. Use multiple themes within your site. Reuse blocks in different regions without having to make a duplicate of the block. Many modules will be used in this course but the following modules are being highlighted.

The August Washington, DC Drupal meetup will be this Monday, August 9, starting at 7:00 pm at Stetson's. This meetup will focus on conversations and networking and be more like a Drupal happy hour than our usual format of short presentations.
We'll start with a round of introductions at 7:30 pm so we can all meet each other, and please come ready to share a few topics you'd like to chat about with others. We'll still open up the floor to anyone who would like to give a quick five minute lightning talk, but we will not have any planned presentations. Most of the time will go to talking casually with people with shared interests.
This month's meetup in particular will be a great opportunity to meet local Drupal developers and talk with them about specific topics you'd like to know more about, for example aggregation, Drush, site building, or Drupal 7. Hope to see you there!
The DC Drupal meetup takes place the second Monday of each month at Stetsons.

Read moreMac SW versus PC SW
This is a message to all you Drupalers that are on a Mac. We are in need of a new computer at my house. Do I go with another PC or a Mac? If I go Mac, I have to run Parallels so that I can flip back and forth between windows and mac to accommodate the Adobe SW in which I have a lot of money invested. So this begs the question, what SW out on a Mac that I can't get on a PC? What Mac only SW do you use as Drupalers? Is the switch worth it (processing power aside)?

Jul 19 - DC Community Training - Input formats - What are they and how to use them safely?
Covers the basics of input formats in Drupal and extends to how contrib modules like Better Formats, WYSIWYG, and others use them. Also goes over the security issues that relate to input formats.
We will also have multi-purpose room for people that want to just get help with Drupal problems, BoF together around a topic, or simply help D7 get out the door faster.

July Drupal Meetup 7/12 at 7:00 pm
The July Drupal meetup in Washington, DC will be on Monday, July 12, at 7:00 pm at Stetson's. As usual, we'll start the evening with quick introductions followed by a round of five minute lightning talks where anyone can take the floor to talk - for five minutes or less - about something Drupal related. So far, we have one talk lined up.
Alex Barth will talk about Kit, a compilation of tools and best practices that makes site building in Drupal easier and faster.
If you'd like to give a lightning talk, speak up! Post about your talk in the comments here and come to the meetup ready to present. You'll have access to a flatscreen if you'd like to show anything off, though there is not an internet connection. After the lightning talks, there will be plenty of time to talk in detail with the presenters and ask they any questions you have and just talk Drupal over some beers.
These meetups are open to everyone and are a great opportunity to meet local Drupal developers, learn more about the platform, and share what you're working on. Hope to see you there!
