Drupal App Store BoF DrupalCamp London 2013

We just had a BoF at DrupalCamp London 2013 BoF on the "Drupal App Store" after the subject was brought up by Robert Douglass in his keynote:

Pantheon was referenced as a potential App Store creator and looking around the web there are a few other candidates.

Surprisingly there wasn't an out and out rejection of the idea.

I guess there are two ways we can go:

1. All independently create App Stores for our own Apps and have different ways for end-users to find them – much like the current WordPress model – see bottom left in diagram. Creates potential for sub-optimal experience for end-user.
2. Come up with some standard APIs for how to present Apps to an end-user so that it appears like they are coming from one store – see bottom middle and bottom right in diagram. Provides a user-cenrtic approach.

If you are planning on developing an App Store would you be interested in option 2?

Of course we could do 1. and then get all frustrated and then try to retrofit 2. Or we could just go straight to 2. and reap the rewards.
