About Me

Only local images are allowed.I run H2otown, a community and news site for Watertown, MA. In addition to running H2otown, I've been active in collecting examples of and writing about what I like to call "placeblogs," blog-based sites about geographical communities.

My current project is Placeblogger.com, an aggregator and searchable directory of independent local blogs. Since launching on January 1, 2007, the site has ammassed the largest available directory of local weblogs. Both H2otown and Placeblogger are Drupal-based sites.

I'm also working with the Boston Globe on a project to incorporate reader contributions and social networking into the paper's site.

I've been a project leader at the Center for Citizen Media In addition, I'm a 2007 Peter Jennings Fellow at the National Center for the Constitution, a founding collaborator at the New England News Forum, and a winner of the Knight Foundation 21st Century News Challenge.

I've been blogging since 2000 on her personal site and I'm a proud member of the Berkman Blog Group hosted by the Berkman Center for the Internet and Society. I was an active member of the iPodder team, doing outreach and documentation including the web movie Four Minutes About Podcasting.

I've spoken at: Bloggercon II and IV, BlogHer I and II, Media Giraffe's Democracy and Independence conference, South By Southwest Interactive (SXSWi), Editor and Publisher Interactive, and the Citizen Journalism Unconference at Wikimania. In my previous career as a technology analyst, I spoke at many tech conferences. I've been a consultant to national and local publications on the subject of blogging and community engagement online. I live in Watertown, MA, with her husband and two children.
