Meetup Code of Conduct

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

The Victoria BC Drupal Meetup brings together mostly people from Vancouver Island BC, but any specific event may have attendees from anywhere around the world. Attendees may be developers, designers, site builders or users already familiar with Drupal & the community, or this may be their first or an early introduction to either. No matter their experience - whether they have 1000 commit credits or have zero development experience it is important that all attendees experience a safe and welcoming event.

The Drupal Code of Conduct outlines our shared ideals and values. This document expresses how we will work to realize these ideas as they pertain to our meetups or at any other events we may organize or our group online spaces such as on meetup.com or groups.drupal.org. Our goal is to ensure that all participants can freely and openly share ideas in a friendly, safe, & welcoming environment that encourages and inspires mutual respect and collaboration.

Specifically, we are committed to providing a harassment free experience for all regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, culture or religion.

Come for the software, stay for the community

Drupal would simply not exist without its community. We want all attendees at the Victoria BC Drupal Meetup to have an awesome experience.

The purpose of this is not to restrict the diversity of ideas & expression in the Drupal community; rather, it’s to raise awareness of the potential for actions that could harm or alienate valuable members — and potential members — of the community.

We are considerate

While Victoria BC Drupal Meetup is a local event, we may have attendees from around the world and even locally, our population has a wide variety of ethnic, cultural, and religious backgrounds. We acknowledge that cross-cultural communication can be complicated and encourage everyone to consider both the impact of their actions on those with different backgrounds and experiences and the honest intentions of those who may have unknowingly caused offense.

We are welcoming

One of the greatest strengths of the Drupal community is our inclusiveness. Making all attendees feel welcome and included at the Victoria BC Drupal Meetup is everyone’s job.

We are collaborative

If and when misunderstandings occur, we encourage people to work things out between themselves whenever possible. People are encouraged to take responsibility for their words and actions & listen to constructively-presented criticism with an open mind, courtesy, and respect.

When we disagree, we consult others

If people are unable to work out issues between themselves, they are encouraged to seek the advice of a mutually trusted third party or a designated community volunteer to help mediate.

For Victoria BC Drupal Meetup, we have appointed a visible community member for this role:

Nick Wilde: 250-893-3080 or nick@nickwilde.ca

You may also contact the Drupal Community Working Group (CWG)to help mediate or resolve issues. Given our small size this may be an especially good idea if you have a problem with an event organizer.

When we need it, we ask for help

We do not tolerate harassment of conference participants in any form. If you feel threatened or violated as a result of intimidating, harassing, abusive, discriminatory, derogatory or demeaning conduct, please immediately notify one of the event organizer(s). Likewise, please immediately notify an event organizer if you notice that someone else is being subjected to such behavior.

The Victoria BC Drupal Meetup wants everyone to feel safe for the duration of any events and ongoing interactions in our online spaces. If necessary, organizers will work with the Drupal CWG to ensure this. Other actions if necessary are not limited to but may include: warnings, temporary or permanent dis-invitation from Victoria BC Drupal Meetup and referrals to venue security, or local law enforcement in extreme cases.

We’re all in this together

Thanks for making the Victoria BC Drupal Meetup awesome for everyone!
