I am new to drupal and need help to setup Drupal. Here are what I have:

1. One server loaded with Debian Linux latest version
2. 1 and 1 business package
3. A domain name registered www.skybridge.info

My intent is to create a full-feature social network for my friend worldwide to stay connected. I am thinking of create a local server for development and upload finished work to 1 and 1. Unfortunately, I can't even get started. Can anyone in Chicago area help me?

UPDATE! (July 23, 2008): Because of the short notice advertising, the number of participants will no doubt be too small to have a successful event. So, we have decided to postpone until early autumn. Stay tuned for updates.

I'm a small international consulting business looking to add Drupal functionality to my Web site, particularly in E-commerce. Am open to working with someone project-by-project in flexible time. I work for an online marketing company looking for a developer to implement a Drupal CMS/ecommerce site. It's a fairly robust site (400 pages) with some slightly more complicated taxonomy requirements. I am a project manager and would coordinate content/images/data, etc. but need your help in creating taxonomy, customizing layout, implementing modules, etc. fyi We're in Chicago. Looking to identify person very soon - tho project may be a little ways out yet.

Plans for BU Drupal BootCamp are in full swing. We will be using a room equipped for video conferencing, food has been arranged, and we will even be able to provide a limited number of laptops to attendees who don't have a laptop of their own for the day.

I thought the UIUC Drupal event was very informative. I liked that each speaker had a short stint on their topic, and things moved along at a good pace. Starting off with your presentation provided a nice segue into the rest of the morning topics.

UPDATE: We have much more information about our BU event on May 2nd. It will be free, and breakfast items and lunch will be provided. It will be in GCC Room 124 on Bradley University's campus, which is a room with teleconference facilities, so we may be able to teleconference in a presenter or two, or stream the event live - we're still investigating these possibilties. The Flourish conference is next weekend (April 4th and 5th), and it seems like a logical place to do some Drupal marketing.

Hey Drupalers,

I was talking with some of Bradley's IT higher-ups as part of a portal project that my students are helping skin. Once mentioned that our university webmaster was looking at Drupal, and I immediately began to espouse the benefits of Drupal. (Several of the Slane College sites use Drupal, with several more on the way.)

I mentioned that I'd be willing to help them plan such an implementation, and then someone asked if I could show a few people around Drupal, and maybe do a little training.

In the spirit of the Drupal community, I asked if Bradley could instead sponsor a DrupalCamp. My contacts in IT seemed very receptive to the idea, and said that we could get some labs and some food. We also have a few local multimedia shops who might be able to sponsor anything else that was needed. Bradley has a wireless campus, A/V equipment, and nice labs.

I am looking for a a resource to configure a large Drupal content site and migrate content from existing site. This person should be able to demonstrate:

• Large Drupal content site development
• 3+ years experience with CMS products
• PHP Programming skills
• Drupal Configuration experience
• Drupal API / Custom Module experience

Resource should be able to attend several planned meetings, but can generally work from home.

I just thought I'd post a notice here that we're going to have a program downstate on the changes coming in CCK in Drupal 6.x. It will be in Normal on Thursday, November 29 (see http://groups.drupal.org/node/7103). It's a bit of a drive for an evening meeting, but it looks like we may have at least one person coming from Chicago now, and I know this is a topic many people are interested in, so I thought I'd mention it in the Chicago group.

The Well, Inc. www.thewellinc.com, is an emerging-media, boutique ad agency located in River North. They are looking for a unique individual to fill the position of Senior Web Developer with a focus on MySQL/PHP, using Drupal as a platform.

As a member of a small multi-disciplinary team, you will plan, design and develop scalable, flexible websites, from Micro-sites to large e-commerce sites for our clients. Some of our recent projects included a large e-commerce site, a social networking site, and other emerging technologies.

If anyone is interested or knows anyone who might be interested, I'm trying to get a downstate user group going. It's the Central Illinois User Group at http://groups.drupal.org/central-illinois-drupal-users.
