As some of you may already know DrupalAtlanta.com is in the process of redesigning their website. The organizers of the project hope to use the site redesign as a working laboratory to expose new members on how to build a Drupal site from the ground-floor. Look out for meeting updates about the monthly Drupal workshops being conducted!

However, first and foremost we need your input. We are in the process of defining the requirements and goals of the site and are looking for feedback on such things as:

• What type of features and functionality should be included?

This meeting will be dedicated to adhoc hands on projects. Specific emphasis will be given to forming a team to migrate and upgrade the Drupal Atlanta Web site. Lets use our Web site as a learning tool. We'll need a couple of advanced users to direct a team of relative beginners on how to do the work.

The Enterprise Systems Department at the Georgia Tech Research Institute is looking for a full-time PHP Developer experienced with Drupal for handling internal and external websites, business systems, and integrating legacy applications from several platforms. GAPN is based on Drupal 5.7, and makes heavy use of the following modules: CCK, Views, Workflow-ng, FeedAPI, ImageCache, Usernode, Bio, Fivestar, and Voting API. That's not a full list, but the site leans on those the most.

Voice Over the Internet (VoIP) is converging with web applications. This presentation will begin with a description of VoIP technology and its realization in the Open Source Software Asterisk IP-PBX. It will show parallels between Asterisk and Drupal and describe opportunities for synergy between the two. Finally we will review and demonstrate the code for two examples of a VoIP application embedded in a Drupal site.

This month's meeting will focus on Theming your Drupal site. Theming has been a long awaited topic. Although Drupal is rich with functionality, it has a fairly plain (out of box) user interface. In order to create a truly usable site, Drupal developers need to know how to design an attractive user interface for Drupal. I'm looking forward to this session because I have a few sites on the www which have not yet been themed, and for me, that's the next step in the development of these sites.

Site Overview - This will be a user based website designed for selling beats. Visitors will be able to browse samples of audio files but only registered users will be able to purchase beats. Since all files will be customized to the users specification there will be no need for a digital delivery system. Users will select the tracks they want and then complete purchase through Paypal. Once payment is received customers will be prompted for detailed instructions for customizing each track purchased.

Drupal 101: So, you've installed Drupal 5. What happens next? We'll cover frontpage design, taxonomy, Drupal specific terms, and optional modules.

Does anyone know of any companies, individuals or groups offering Drupal training of any kind in the Nashville area? Tennessee? Kentucky? Southeastern US? I would like to present various training options for my employer. I am aware of the workshops that Lullabot puts on, but I would like to see if there are any options within driving distance of my day job in Nashville.

I am most interested in theming, design tweaking, and understanding the inner workings of the Drupal framework as a whole. In the future, I would like to be able to assist with module development.

Our second Drupal Atlanta meeting saw several new faces and a few missing from the previous meeting. We've added a couple of Drupal developers with extensive coding experience, so that bodes well for the future.

Our first presentation was Installing Drupal 5.1 and it seemed to generate a lot of interest, even from some of the more experienced developers.

We agreed to the following procedural matters:

1. Until further notice, meetings will be held on the third Tuesday of each month at the 5Seasons. So, the next meeting will take place on April 17 at 7:30p.
2. A steering committee of 3-4 will hash out some of the more mundane procedural matters and present them to the group at future meetings for a vote.
3. Meetings will consist of a short procedural session, followed by two presentations: one for beginners, and one for intermediate/advanced Drupal users. In this way, we hope to meet the needs of all members.
4. Next month's presentations include:
• Drupal 101: What do you do when faced with a blank canvas after installation? We'll cover frontpage design, taxonomy, Drupal specific terms, and optional modules.
• Organic Groups: We'll cover one of the most popular modules for Drupal--organic groups, and how it allows you to set up different areas within your Drupal website for specific groups. (much like the groups.drupal.org site)

Here are the minutes from our first meeting:

The Atlanta Drupal Users Group is heating up! It looks like there will be a sizable crowd in attendance at our first official meeting. The skill sets run the gamut from new users, graphic designers, drupal site publishers, to PHP programmers, so it should lead to a lively and dynamic meeting.

Hi all, I'm decidedly not in Atlanta, but I'll be coming to Atlanta for the United States Social Forum– a regional edition of the World Social Forum just held in Nairobi, Kenya, and that started in Porto Alegre, Brazil, as a counterweight to the elite invite-only World Economic Forum.

The USSF site is being developed in Drupal by volunteers around the country, especially NYC (I'm in Boston but haven't helped much).
